Happy Halloween.

I've never been a big fan of Halloween, as opposed to 99% of the rest of the US population.  Even as a child, I only went trick or treating two or three times, but I was pretty much over Halloween by the age of ten.  I just never got into dressing up in costumes.  Of course, I was all for candy, but not if it involved walking around dressed up as a character.  So, I need these:

I hope you all enjoy your HALLOWEEN, dressing up and all!

The Girl Who Played With Fire and Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

This is the second book in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.  Dag Svensson, a freelance journalist, plans to publish a story that exposes important people involved in Sweden's sex trafficking business based on research conducted by his girlfriend, Mia Johansson, a criminologist and gender studies scholar.  A few weeks before publication, the couple is shot to death in their Stockholm apartment. Lisbeth Salander, who has a history of violent tendencies, becomes the prime suspect after the police find her fingerprints on the murder weapon. Mikael Blomkvist tries to clear Salander of the crime with some crazy twists and unlikely sources of help.

The third book in the thrilling trilogy brings the story from the Girl Who Played With Fire to its final conclusion.  Without giving too much away, Mikael Blomkvist attempts to uncover a decades-long government conspiracy and cover up which has changed the course of Lisbeth Salander's life.

These two books go together, which the first book of the "trilogy" seems to be its own story-- more of a "prequel."  Regardless, I looooooooved these books.  The story is intriguing with lots of plot twists and unanticipated turns.  Lots of books end so quickly with all the storylines tied up in a neat little bow.  But, this book did not do that.  The resolution to all the storylines were not at all rushed, yet completely satisfying.  I highly recommend these books (with the caveat that there is some strong language and some sexual content that you may or may not deem inappropriate).

I've Been Tagged.

I've been tagged by Sarah from GI Joe's Wife.  Well, I was tagged a while ago, but fell down on the job.  Better late than never, right??

1. What is your favorite sport? What's your favorite team in that sport?
Oh my-- that's like asking a mother which child is her favorite.  My favoriteS are football, basketball, and baseball.

I went to UNC-Chapel Hill, so they're my favorite team in everything.  But, I am also a big fan of the Florida Gators.

NFL Football-- the Denver Broncos.
Basketball-- Orlando Magic

Baseball-- New York Yankees

2. What's your favorite color to wear?
I wear black all the time, but I think green is one of my best colors.

3. What do you spend most of your free time doing?
Lots of things-- I read a lot of books, watch a lot of TV, hang out with my friends and family, play in my church orchestra, etc.

4. If you could spend one hour with one person - past or present - who would it be and why?
My grandfather-- he died my second year in law school, and I really miss him.  He'd love the crazy stories about some of my clients.

5. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you "grew up?"
I've pretty much always wanted to be a lawyer.  Thank you, Law & Order.

6. What is one place that you've always wanted to visit but haven't been able to yet?

7. Name one movie you could watch over and over and over again and never get tired of.
The Godfather

A Few Good Men

Spy Game

Life With Father

8. What does your dream house look like? You can post a picture or "paint" a picture with words.
My dream house would be on the water-- preferably the ocean.  It would probably look something like this:

With this kitchen:

And this backyard:

West Wing Tribute.

The West Wing is perhaps the greatest TV show ever.  I watch my WW dvds all the time and have memorized entire episodes.

Entertainment Weekly last week was all about reunions, and the West Wing was featured!

For those of you who have never experienced the awesomeness of the West Wing and for those of you who miss it like I do, here are some of my fave clips.  Enjoy!

What is Wrong?

Welcome to new Tuesday Tag-Along followers!  I'm glad you've all stopped by, although you've picked a rough week to do it.  I don't usually rant, but after this past Saturday, it must be done.

Tuesday Tag-Along

I love the Florida Gators.  But, the last few weeks have been a disaster.

First was the crushing by Bama.

The LSU game was closer, but was still a loss.

And then this past Saturday, my Gators lost to MISSISSIPPI STATE.  Seriously??  At least Bama and LSU I can understand.  But MSU?  The score was 10-7, and the Gators played HORRIBLE.  They were lucky to get their one TD.

Admittedly, I jumped on the Florida wagon late in life-- not until 2004, when I was in college (and yes, before the Tebow era).  But, I've never seen them play as bad as they have the last few weeks.  From what I understand, they haven't lost three games in a row since the 1990s.  What is wrong with them?  Just because Tim Tebow isn't there anymore doesn't mean the team should fall apart!

Fair Time!

Friday night, I went to the fair with my friend Jennifer.  I haven't been since I was a child, and it was so much fun!!

First, we stopped to the the animals-- some were cute:

Others exotic:

And some just weird...

Then, of course, we had to eat.  True story-- I've never had a corn dog before until now.  And let me tell you-- they are delicious!  I can't believe I've been missing out all these years.

Then we went to the "Double-Figure-Eight" race, which was the highlight of the evening.  The cars run around this track in two figure-eights, trying not to crash as they come headfirst toward another car.  Of course, there were some cars that were trying to hit others, but that's half the fun.

Then, the Swifty Swine pig races.

And finally, onto the games and rides!

No, I did not win this, but I wanted to.

To cap off the night, Jennifer got me to ride the Ferris Wheel, which was no easy feat.  I'm scared to death of heights, but I made it through and safely off again.

Definitely a trip I'll be taking again next year!

I'm a Genius.

And a klutz.

I love grape juice.  Last week, I brought a cup of grape juice to my bedroom and of course knocked it off my nightstand.  Grape juice flying EVERYWHERE.  I promptly mopped it up and treated the carpet with lemon juice and white vinegar (as directed by the internet-- what did we do before the internet??).  It worked perfectly with only a tiny bit of pink still visible.

Two nights later, I figured I've learned my lesson and will be way more careful with the juice on my table.  So, I carry another cup of grape juice into my room.  This time, it doesn't even get to the nightstand before I trip and almost fall, again sending grape juice flying.  So, once again, I clean with lemon juice (which I'm now out of after all this cleaning...) and white vinegar.

I was so mad, but it was hilarious to me that I had done it again!!  I never claim to be graceful or trip-and-fall free.

But wait-- it gets even better.  Sunday at church we have communion.  Hallelujah that I manage to keep the grape juice in my hands until I get to drink it, but as I attempt to set the empty cup in the little holder in the pew, the slippery bugger falls to the ground, clangs around on the hard floor as it echoes throughout the sanctuary.  This time I all but have an aneurysm trying to avoid the laughter bubbling up within me.

After all this, I figure that as much as I love grape juice, it has declared war on my bedroom carpet.  So, I created this solution (as I don't have children, therefore don't have sippy cups with lids), and I'm quite proud of myself.  It's not fancy, but it does the trick.

As you can see, I wrapped saran wrap over and around a cup, secured with not one but two rubber bands.

Then, I cut a hole in the top just large enough that I could drink out of it, but not large enough to have all 8 oz (or however much) fly away should I (very likely) drop the cup again.  I know my parents will be proud.  Haha.

Happy Friday!

It's finally Friday again!  I'm going to the fair this weekend for the first time in more than 15 years!  I can't wait.

Saturday, the Gators play LSU.  Here's hoping that they hold up better than they did against Bama.

Also on Saturday (hopefully not Sunday too), the Yankees will play the Minnesota Twins in New York to advance to the ALCS.

And, at some point during all this excitement, I'd like to be almost finished with this book:

Anybody else have such exciting weekend plans?  ;)

Wee Bit Wednesday.

{one} grilled or fried?
Fried is tastier, but I try to eat more grilled instead.

{two} if you could change one thing about where you live, without worrying about money, what would you change?
I'd have a great outdoor space in the back with a grill, a place to lounge, a fireplace, and a pool.

{three} what is your favorite time of day?
Bedtime. I love crawling into bed with a good book or TV show and just resting after a long day.

{four} what’s your favorite cereal?
Lucky Charms-- they're magically delicious!!

{five} do you open your mouth when you put mascara on?
Probably-- haha!

{six} if you could make any fictional character come to life, which would it be?
I really have no idea, but Cinderella's fairy godmother would be nice. Who doesn't need a fairy godmother?

{seven} what are your favorite pizza toppings?
Margherita pizza is my favorite-- olive oil (no tomato sauce), cheese, sliced or diced tomatoes, and basil. Yum.

{eight} are you a heavy or a light sleeper?
Lighter than I used to be (true story-- when I was a kid, I slept through a tree falling on our house). But I still don't wake up for little noises or bumps in the night.

{nine} what is your favorite board game?
Monopoly!! I'm totally addicted to the iPhone version right now.

{ten} what star/celebrity do most people say you look like?
When I was younger, some friends said I looked like a brunette Kate Winslet. I don't see it, but I'm happy with the comparison!
