A New Look and GTKYS!

I'm so excited to show off my new look!  Tricia from Tricia Nae Designs gave my blog a much-needed makeover.  She was great to work with and made it exactly what I was looking for.  If you guys are looking for a total overhaul or just a quick update, check her out.  Thanks Tricia!!

Since my neighbor's internet has been less than reliable recently, I haven't been able to participate in GTKYS recently, but I'm back this week!

Getting to know YOU

1. If you accidently knick a car in a parking lot..Do you leave a note or do you get the heck out of there?  Get the heck out of there!!  Unless it's some serious damage, of course.

2. Love your body or plastic surgery?  I could go for a nip here and a tuck there.  But not on my face.

3. What about your favorite blog(s) continues to drive you back?  Content-- I enjoy reading all the posts on blogs I follow.

4. What percent of your blog is BS just to make your life seem more interesting than it really is?  None.  My life isn't all that exciting, and if you read my blog, you know this.

5. If you had to give up one type of meat for the rest of your life, what would it be?  Pork.  I like pork, but it's not a staple.  No way could I give up chicken, beef, or fish.

6. How often to you eat out?  A couple times a week-- a.k.a more than I should.  It's hard on the wallet.

7. Skinny jeans or boot cut jeans?  Boot cut jeans.  Girls (like me) who are only 5'0" and weigh more than 100 lbs should not wear skinny jeans.

8. If you caught your spouse cheating would you forgive, divorce, or plan your kill?  What a depressing question!  But, I guess it would depend on the situation.

30 Day Blog Journal-- Days 20-24.

Day 20 - A Hobby of Yours-- I've played tennis since summer 2007.  It's a great workout and a good stress-reliever.  And so much fun!

Day 21 - A Recipe-- I'm looking forward to trying this Nacho Beef Bake from A Taste of Home.  My mother made it (without me) the other night, and she and my dad loved it.

Ingredients
1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup water
1 envelope reduced-sodium taco seasoning
2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated reduced-fat crescent rolls
1 cup (8 ounces) reduced-fat sour cream
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
4 ounces baked nacho tortilla chips (about 2 cups), crushed
3 cups shredded lettuce
3 medium tomatoes, chopped

Directions
  • In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the beans, water and taco seasoning; mash slightly. Cook and stir for 4-5 minutes or until heated through; set aside.
  • Unroll crescent dough and press onto the bottom and up the sides of a 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish coated with cooking spray; seal seams and perforations. Spoon beef mixture over dough. Spread sour cream over beef mixture; sprinkle with cheese and chips.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 18-22 minutes or until cheese is melted. Top with lettuce and tomatoes. Serve immediately. Yield: 12 servings.
Day 22 - A Website-- Here are some of my favorite (non-blog) websites:
  • Hulu
  • peopleofwalmart.com
  • Entertainment Weekly
  • Drudge Report
Day 23 - A YouTube Video-- I love this video.  I need one of these machines for Emma.

Basketball

Oh, how I love North Carolina!

30 Day Blog Journal-- Days 16-19.

Day 16 - A song that makes you cry
Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle-- I absolutely cannot listen to this song without becoming a blubbering mess.

Day 17 - An art piece (drawing, sculpture, painting, etc)
My friend Jessica painted this for me, and I love it.  She's an amazing artist.

Day 18 - My future wedding
Is something I don't think about as much these days as I did when I was younger.  But I think I'd like to get married on a beach somewhere.  A small event with only family and really close friends then a big reception later.

Day 19 - A talent of yours
I play the flute and piccolo and love it.  I've played since age 13 and since then have been in concert bands, church orchestras, community orchestras, and the University of North Carolina Marching Tarheels.

30 Day Blog Journal-- Days 10-15.

I've been very slack this week!  But, if you all knew what had been going on at work, you'd understand.  Anyway-- onto the tasks for last this week.

Day 10: A photo taken over 10 years ago of you.
I don't have a picture readily available more than 10 years old.  So, here's the oldest picture I have-- it's from 2002, my freshman year in college.

Day 11: A picture of you taken recently.
Me and my girl, Reba.

Day 12: Something you are OCD about.
I really can't say that I'm OCD about anything.  I'm usually pretty good at going with the flow and accepting suggestions.

Day 13: A fictional book.
I'm currently reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  It's interesting, but I can't say it ranks high on my list.  Of course, I'm only about 2/3 of the way through, so it may get great by the end.

Day 14: A non-fiction book.
I don't read a lot of non-fiction books these days.  But I did recently read Some Kind of Different as Me, and it was AMAZING.  I highly recommend it.

Day 15:  Your dream house.
I loooooooove the house from Something's Gotta Give.

30 Day Blog Journal-- Days 1-5.

Favorite Song-- Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.  Watch Leonard Bernstein conduct the NY Symphony Orchestra AND play the piano part here (at least the first half of the song...).  And be amazed.

Favorite Movie-- I have a couple (of course).

The Godfather, Parts I and II

Life With Father

Gone With the Wind

Favorite TV Show-- The West Wing

Favorite Book-- Ever?  Impossible to determine.  Favorite books I've read in the last few months?

Favorite Quote-- I don't really have a favorite quote.  But C.S. Lewis is one of the wisest men I've ever read, and he said:

"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."

A Wee Bit of Me.

{one} what website do you spend the most time on?
Google.  Seriously-- i'm constantly looking things up on google.  I also love EW.com.

{two} what's the furthest you've ever travelled?
I went on a mission trip to Ukraine and Moldova when I was in college.  One of the best experiences of my life.

{three} what's your guilty pleasure tv show?
The Bachelor(ette) and One Tree Hill.  I love tv.  Probably too much...

{four} if you had to give up one favorite food, what would be the hardest?
Carbs-- I absolutely cannot do a no-carb diet.  I love potatoes, bread, and pasta and might die without them.

{five} if you could become any fictional character, who would you be?
Oh my what a hard question.  I think I'd be either CJ Cregg on The West Wing or Sammy from Sammy's Hill and Sammy's House by Kristin Gore.  They have my dream jobs in DC.

{six} what's your favorite season of the year?
Definitely fall, especially now that I'm no longer in school.  I love when the weather starts to get cool after a long, hot summer.

{seven} what's your biggest phobia?
Heights.  Hands down.

{eight} would you rather swim in a pool or the ocean?
For swimming, I'd pick the pool.  For hanging out and getting a tan, the ocean/beach.

{nine} what did you eat for breakfast today?
An apple with peanut butter.

{ten} if you could only listen to one song for the next month, which song would it be?
Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.  Love his music.

Bachelorette Finale.

First, of all-- I'm back from my cruise!  We had an AMAZING time in the Bahamas and Key West.  I can't wait to cruise again!  Don't worry-- recaps of the cruise will be forthcoming (because I know how much everyone loves to read about other people's vacations...).

But, onto the Bachelorette!  As you all know by now, Ali chose Roberto over Chris.  If you didn't see this coming, you're blind.  Chris is really sweet, and I hope he's the next Bachelor.  But Ali was all about some Roberto.  And he (shock of all shocks) proposed!

Glad the couple is still happy.  Not all have made it to the "After the Final Rose" show...
