Putting on My Face.

My makeup routine is pretty standard, I think.  Minimal compared to some, but very complicated to others.  But I thought it would be fun to share.  I can't believe I'm showing you my naked face, but here goes nothing.  :)

First (and most important) thing I do is moisturize.  My skin is really dry, especially in the winter/spring when I still have the heat on and the humidity in the air is low.  Right now, my morning moisturizer is Clinique's Dramatically Different.  If it's a really dry morning, I'll use Origins Make a Difference.  And on days I can go without foundation, I love Origins VitaZing, which works like a tinted moisturizer.

While my face is soaking up the moisture (two applications on any particularly dry areas), I fix my eyes.  By doing eyes before foundation, I can get rid of any fallout without messing up the rest of my face.  This is my "everyday" neutral eye.

For this look, I used Urban Decay Primer Potion in "Sin" all over the eyelid and up to the brow bone.  Then Benefit's Lust Duster in "nugget" on the lid from lashline to crease.  In the crease and outer corner, I use a dark brown shadow (either Sephora brand or Urban Decay pigment in "Smog").  Then to top it off, I add a highlighter on the brow bone, just under the eyebrow.  Here, I used Benefit High Beam, but any white, pearly eyeshadow works too.  I also use a brown eyeshadow to fill in my eyebrows (just make sure that it's a matte shadow, not shimmery).

The eyeliner is Avon's gel eyeliner in black, but I'd also recommend MAC Powerpoint pencil and Make Up For Ever's Aqua Liner.  My eyelashes are naturally straightt, so I have to curl them.  It makes a HUGE difference to open up my eyes.  And my favorite mascara of the moment is Clinique's Lash Doubling Mascara.

Once the eyes are done, time to hit the face!  I've tried so many foundations over the past six months, but I finally landed on MAC Mineralize Satinfinish.  It's not too heavy but gives enough coverage.  Plus, it's got a "dewy" finish that I like.  I also use the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer as necessary.  Since we've entered spring officially, I've broken out my Benefit Hoola bronzer and dusted it on lightly.  And top it off with my FAVE blush, Benefit Bella Bamba.

Last but not least is the lips.  My lip products are constantly changing, but what I'm using these days is Clinique's Chubby Stick Lip Balm in "Mega Melon" topped with Benefit's Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in "Nudie-Tude."

And voila!  My face is done!

I really doesn't take me that long to do.  It actually took me longer to write out what I did than to actually do it!  Haha.  If y'all have product recommendations, I'd love to hear them.  I'm always keeping my eyes out for new things to try!

  1. Good for you!! Such a brave post-- I could never do this :-S Your eyeshadow looks so pretty. You're gorgeous before AND after, Katie!! :-D

  2. i think i might take after you and do the same thing. i look TOTALLY different w/o make-up on.

and i love your eyeshadow. i use a similar shimmery brown/gold from bare escentuals

  3. That was a fun post!! =) I may have to check out some of the eye products you use. =)

  4. You look beautiful without make-up too (you natural beauty- it's not fair!!) :)

I love how you do your eyes- you and Monica should give me pointers (she always has great eye make-up on as well). Maybe we should have a makeover while we are watching HIMYM and Psych? ;)

Three guesses what product I will recommend you try!! Seriously, you will have lots to choose from when you come and visit!! FIVE weeks from today is when you get here. Wahoo!

  5. Oh I love your makeup recommendations! I'll have to check them out.

  6. Loving your eye makeup. I am going to have to try it!

  7. I LOOOOOOOVE posts like this (surprise, huh?)! I really can't get into benefit high beam! It always ends up streaky and cakey on me somehow. I've never tried the MAC mineralize foundation--- will have to. I have the mineralize skin finish natural and it is INCREDIBLE (it's the powder in the same collection - I use it over foundation or in place of foundation on those "lighter" days). AND! I love UDPP!!! SENT FROM HEAVEN!!! And Smog... love! I have that in my naked palette! Gorgeous neutral eye! I have been digging neutral eyes so much lately!

  8. That was a great post. I love Clinique, but I'm really going to need to try the moisturizer. Thank you for doing a post like this. :)

  9. I love this post!

    A) you're pretty brave to put yourself out there barefaced. Luckily you are lovely enough not to have to worry!

    B) I love your everyday look! Very pretty.

    Thanks for sharing.

  10. You look gorgeous. I really want to try Origin's Vita Zing. Have you tried Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer? Is it anything like that do you know?

  11. Great tips!! I'm gonna try it later.

    PS No I'm not.

PSS The first picture, very pretty!
