Tuesday Tunes.

Today's tunes are some of my all-time favorites-- some of the greatest songs ever recorded.  I went through a phase in college where I didn't like much music that was recorded after 1990 (I was much more musically discerning then than I am now.  Ha.) and would listen to these songs over and over and over.  They never get old.

(love the piano coming down from the ceiling!)

This song has been way overdone recently.  But the ORIGINAL never gets old.  ps-- Steve Perry's shirt in this video is smokin hot...

Katie Currently.

Listening...  Maroon 5 pandora station.  Current song: Viva la Vida by Coldplay.

Eating... Mellow Mushroom parmesan pretzels thanks to my boss.  Yum.

Drinking... Diet Coke.  Duh.

Wearing... My fave black and white Ralph Lauren silk skirt, black tank (ditched the suit jacket when I got back from court) and my new babies:

Feeling... A tad overwhelmed.  I've got a ton of stuff to get done today and spent almost the entire morning in court.

Weather... 84 and sunny at the moment.  Good chance of thunderstoms later.  Hoping they get out of here before the CWS game at 8 so I don't lose the DirecTV signal during the game.

Wanting... An initial necklace with a "k"-- like these:

sterling silver handwritten initial pendant - k

sterling silver block letter initial necklace - k

Needing... Groceries.  Seriously, I have almost no food at home.

Thinking... Sunday cannot get here fast enough.

Enjoying... Pinterest.  I knew I'd get addicted to it, and I was right.  But it's so much fun.

I SO need this art for my house!

Happy Monday, y'all!  Only a few more days until a long weekend.  Seems like I just had a long weekend for Memorial Day, but I'll definitely take another one!  :)

The Post You've All Been Waiting For.

So, after much pestering encouragement, I'm finally going to share the story of The Boy with you.  I know you've all been on the edge of your seat in anticipation.

Donny and I technically "met" through Rachel on twitter.  And if my memory serves me correctly, our first conversation was over my hatred of the Red Sox when they started out the season with a serious losing streak.  :)  So, when I got to Texas, I asked him if he was going to the Rangers game that I would be attending on Monday.  He said he would come, and then I asked if he wanted to join us at the rodeo that Saturday night.  And he did.

Yes, we officially met at the Fort Worth rodeo.  Very Texas-y, right?  :)  After the rodeo, our group went to Billy Bob's Honky Tonk, where he taught me how to two-step and we tried to avoid being run over by the professional two-steppers who were spinning and flying around the dance floor.  Ah, fun times.  After that, we hung out every day for the rest of my trip, including at the aforementioned Rangers game.

And since I've been home, we've talked every day.  And he's been in Africa on a mission trip since last Wednesday, and he's still managed to contact me somehow every day, which has made this girl very happy.  :)

He's SO funny and witty.  And thoughtful and sweet.  And he loves Jesus and baseball (although he hates the Yankees, so it's not like he's perfect or anything).  Not to mention he's super cute:

Here's the downside though:

But, he's coming to visit me Labor Day weekend!

So, there you have it!  The story of The Boy.  :)

So Sick of Bentley.

I hadn't gotten more than three minutes into the Bachelorette, and already I had heard the name "Bentley" three times.  Ugh!!!  I wish at some point the producers would show her the footage so she can get over this idiot.  Or at least edit the footage that WE have to see so that we're not constantly hearing it.  Sigh...

This week, they're in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  And we get our first, "if you can't fall in love here, you are damaged goods" of the season.  Because that's really all it takes to fall in love-- a pretty backdrop.  Ames, who should work for the Thailand tourism board, goes on about how it's the perfect place to fall in love-- "It's famous for having for thousands of monks in saffron robes wandering around."  Ummm... romantic?

Onto the dates!  This week, Chris tells us that there will be a one-on-one date, a group date, and... dun dun dun... the beloved dreaded two-on-one date!!

One on One-- Ashley selects Rafael Nadal, I mean Ben F., for the individual date this week.  They wander around the city and end up in front of a temple where they're not allowed to kiss.  So, they just talk about how hard it is NOT to kiss and instead have a "mental kiss."  Well, folks, there's an easy solution to your problem-- get up and walk somewhere else!!  Obviously it wasn't that difficult if you didn't feel the need to go somewhere else so you could make it happen.  At dinner they have a nice chat and actually do get to kiss.  Ben gets the rose.

Group Date-- Ashley wants to "find the masculinity in these guys." And yet, Ames is on this date...  (Sidenote-- Ames is REALLY starting to annoy me.  He's much to chatty and analytical in his interviews.  And he pronounces "process" as "proh-cess."  Unacceptable.)  They guys all suit up to fight and leave Ames with the pink shorts (which, let's be honest, is fairly appropriate).

This fighting is no joke.  Ashley thought it would be fun, not "bloody."  Hasn't she seen Fight Club??  Anytime people are getting punched in the face, there's a good chance of injuries.  And to prove the point, Ames gets his bell rung during the fight.  He has to go to the hospital in an ambulance.  At this time, I noticed that Ashley did not volunteer to go with him to the hospital.  Not to worry-- he's back for the post-date cocktail party.  Oh, it's only a minor concussion that causes him to be dizzy and not be able to put his thoughts into words.

Ashley chats it up with Lucas, who gives her a golf lesson and says Bentley is her type, and Blake, who needs some "positive reinforcment" and gets it in the form of the rose.

Two-on-One-- Oh, William.  He went from cute to cra-zay in 6.2 seconds.  Well, I guess really two weeks.  I had such high hopes for him after his one on one date with Ashley.  But then the night of the roast, it started to go downhill.  And tonight, it was just a complete disaster.  Quote of the day comes from William-- "I can be every kind of extreme.  I can be the most romantic guy in the room, I can be the funniest guy in the room, I can be the biggest dick in the room."  Well, isn't that what every woman wants?

William tells Ashley that Ben has been talking about online dating when he got home.  And, that's pretty much all it takes for her to quickly kick Ben to the raft of rejection.  No explanations, no nothing. Ben's out.  I guess William was right-- at least about 1/3 of his self-description...  Ashley looked beyond uncomfortable at dinner with William.  He's a self-professed "30 year old boy" who doesn't want to grow up, and Ashley is "looking for a man."  Well, duh.  So, he's out of there.  And in very dramatic fashion-- "I just want to curl up in bed, you know, and not wake up."  Calm down, dude.  She's a girl.  Not the last girl on earth.

Rose Ceremony-- Ashley cannot stop thinking/talking about Bentley.  She talks to some of the guys but cannot get past Bentley.  Ugh.  She says to Chris, "I need to figure out a way how I can close this Bentley thing off."  Well, I can think of one way-- they could freakin' show her what a jerk he is.  But no, that would be too easy.  Chris, as always, issues wise words.  "It's not fair to these guys... You can't have your foot half in the pool and half not.  It's just not going to work."  So true.  But at the same time, she has no idea what a creep Bentley is, so of course she's still pining for him.  Chris tells her he'll try to work something out so she can get her closure, but she needs to start the ceremony.  Roses get handed out to all except Nick.

And we realize once again, that Bachelorette producers are sneaky.  The Bentley reunion we were teased last week did not happen this episode.  But it will happen NEXT week when the group heads to Hong Kong.  I'm on the edge of my seat...

Friday is Finally Here.

This has been such a long week, so I am beyond excited that the weekend is here!  I got a sinus infection early in the week and have been coughing non-stop.  Toss in the fact that Donny (yes "the boy" has a name...) left for Africa for almost three weeks, and it has equaled a not very great week for me.  BUT, my meds are finally starting to kick in, and I got a surprise phone call from Uganda last night.  :)  So, I'm feeling better today.

Plus, everyone at my office has been so great about helping me out while I've been sick.  They basically made me leave and go home to bed twice this week.  Sometimes I get so frustrated with my office, but weeks like this make me realize that it's not so bad.

In other news, today is my dad's birthday.  Happy Birthday, Dad!!  Tonight, we're actually all going to be able to get together and celebrate.

Also tonight is Dustin Ackley's first MLB start for the Seattle Mariners!  For those of you non-crazy UNC fans like me, Ackley played baseball in Chapel Hill and was the 2nd draft pick in 2009.  His major league debut has been anticipated all this season and will finally take place tonight!  So excited.

Speaking of UNC baseball, tomorrow begins the first round of the College World Series, and my Heels play in the afternoon.  Then the Florida Gators and Texas Longhorns play in the evening.

In case you haven't picked up on it yet, there will be lots of baseball this weekend.  :)  And catching up on sleep.  Baseball and sleep-- my perfect weekend.

Hope y'all have a great weekend too!

Inspiration from the Barnacle.

I had seen this before, but I came across it again today.  How appropriate.  So, I've decided:  No more being sad-- time to be AWESOME instead.  Thank you, Barney, for brightening my day.  :)

Fill in the Blank Friday on Saturday.

I've been a day behind all week! (Thanks to my much-demanded Bachelorette recap. :))  So, this week's Friday is Saturday.

1. This weekend I'm  helping my dear Emily paint and move in to her new place, hanging with my friends & family, and generally relaxing in this crazy heat.

2. My last vacation was  to Texas a few weeks ago.  Awesome vacay!

3. My next vacation will be  not until September when (hopefully!!) my Dallas ladies come to NC for a beach trip!

4. My favorite way to relax is  on the couch in front of the TV or with a book.

5. When vacationing one should always  meet a cute boy.  :)

6. When vacationing one should never  be too type-A.  You can't over-plan or be stuck to your schedule.  Leave some room for spontaneity.

7. The best part about a vacation is  being able to escape completely from the stress of work and "real life."

Friday Photo Dump.

I have over 800 pictures on my phone (yes, 'tis true-- I take lots of pictures).  So, I thought I'd share some of my more recent snaps with y'all.

The view from our balcony.  It was heavenly.

While there, Emily and I went to a bar, and the owner let his dog run around.  While pretty bizarre, he was a sweet dog that wanted everybody to play soccer with him.

The curtains in the condo were not blackout curtains but white sheers.  So, we had to go to Target and pick up some sleep masks so as not to be awakened at 5am with the sun.

This was for Emily-- she's quite the ketchup addict.

The view out my window heading to Texas.

When I got back to RDU, this guy was hanging out in the baggage claim.  First, he was doing pushups on the floor.  Then I was able to snap a pic of his high-kicks.  After this, he started jogging in place.  All at 11:15pm. True story.

This guy was doing work in our offices.  His shirt reads, "My tool lasts longer than your tool."  Klassy -- with a K.

This is me every day in my igloo of an office.  It's 95+ degrees outside, and I'm having to thaw out my toes with my space heater.

These two pics were from last week-- John Edwards was in town to appear on his federal indictment.  There were at least 25 news crews and two helicopters around all day.  This pic is the parking lot across from my building.

And this is taken from my office of the crowd after the mini-press conference had already started to disperse. Total craziness in town that day.

I see a lot of weird and sometimes hilarious things.  And my friends always make fun of me because I take pictures of said weirdness.  But sometimes it works out because then I can put it all on my blog.  :)

Anybody notice a problem here?

This bear is 53" inches tall (which is almost as tall as me...).  Some dude was purchasing him at Costco and yes, required this flatbed to carry it around.

I love high heels as much as the next girl.  Probably more than most, actually.  But, is this really necessary??

I want this vehicle.  It was in my parking deck at work, and I seriously contemplated hotwiring it.  If only I knew how...

My Maggie girl.  I love this face.  :)

So, I realized while doing this that I never did a full Texas visit recap!  I'll have to make that happen for next week.  :)  Hope y'all have a FANTASTIC weekend!!

Tuesday Tunes on Wednesday.

Yesterday's Tuesday Tunes post got bumped by the uber-important Bachelorette recap!  But no worries-- I have your tunes today.

This week, I've been in a melancholy music mood.  And these are some of my fave songs to listen to when I'm feeling that way.

"Chasing Cars" came through on my Pandora recently, and I've been listening to it ever since.  Such a good song.

"Gravity" is one of my all-time favorites.  A few seasons ago, there was a dance choreographed to it on So You Think You Can Dance, and it was amazing.  I highly recommend googling it.

And I LOVE The Fray.  Pretty much everything they do is fantastic.

Mobs, Phantoms, and Jerks.

The moment you've all been waiting for is back!  My first Bachelorette recap of the season!  I wasn't going to blog about the Bachelorette this season, but after last night, there was no way to avoid it.   (WARNING-- this post is super-long.)

Holy cow, what a night for our chronically insecure ballerina, Ashley.  But before we get to the crazy, there's some happy.

First, the One on One Date with Ben!  Things start of really well.  She picks him up in an unbelievably awesome Maserati and they head to a dance studio where she teaches him some "hip-hop" moves.  (I'm pretty sure these don't qualify as hip-hop, but whatevs...)  Then she takes him to the middle of a shopping center for a picnic.  Because, really, isn't that the best place for a picnic?  If Ben didn't realize anything was up at this point, he's a little daft.  Why would you have a picnic in a shopping center?

Oh wait-- because you're part of a Flash Mob with Far East Movement performing live!!  Which, I'll give the producers is kind of cool.  I would love to be part of a flash mob.  Heck, I'd just love to see a flash mob.  Ben is a really good sport about the whole thing, even though he is clearly uncomfortable.  But, of course I too would dance like a fool in public to see Far East Movement sing "Rocketeer" live.  They kiss at the prompting of the crowd and FEM.  Slightly awkward, but Ben doesn't seem to mind.

At dinner, it gets VERY awkward when Ben cannot stop talking-- "I want to live in a bubble with somebody I want to live in some unrealistic idealistic bubble where we are convinced that we are like more in love than any other couple that ever lived I know that sounds wild..." and on and on he went.  I swear the dude did not take a breath for a solid five minutes.  Fortunately for his oxygen-deprived brain cells, Ashley breaks in with a "Whoa!"  Yes, that is definitely the word I was thinking.  Ultimately she decides she likes it and gives him a rose.

The next day is the Group Date.  And here's where the episode starts to go downhill.  Rapidly.  The Phantom (real name is Jeff but does that really matter?) decides that today is the day that he shall reveal his face to Ashley.  So within five minutes of her arrival at the house, he scurries her onto the patio for the moment the birds and squirrels have apparently all been dreading.  He takes his mask off and she says "oh."  And not in a good way.  She admits to the camera, "He's a lot older than I thought he was."  Bad sign, Phantom.  Bad sign.  Personally, I think he looks slightly creepier without the mask than with.  But, that's just me.  It's the bug-eyes.

And with that anti-climactic reveal out of the way, the gang heads to a comedy club where they are going to roast Ashley.  Yes, you read that correctly.  I have no idea who in the world thought that this would be a good idea for a date, but they are about to be proven very, very wrong.  It actually all starts out fine with the guys jabbing each other, then it gets a little more personal with some jokes about Ashley's small boobs and her being one of "Brad's leftovers."  But, she's totally fine with that.

Then William steps up to the podium.  Poor, delusional William, who thinks this is his chance to live out his stand-up comedy dreams and impress Jeffrey Ross.  Little did he realize, I guess, that he's supposed to be trying to impress ASHLEY!  Oops.  He breaks out this winner-- "I thought I signed up to be with Emily or Chantal, and then Ashley's here.  Really, who gives a sh--?"  Someone in the crowd screams the best line of the evening-- "Too soon!"

After William basically breaks the girl's heart, Ashley can barely make it backstage before she completely breaks down about how it's her biggest fear that the guys wouldn't want her and that they'd want Emily or Chantal instead. Bentley, seeing an opportunity to help manipulate, quickly goes to her side and tosses some general nice words in her direction. "You have everything. Your body, your face is beautiful. You're the best dancer in the world." Then he throws this gem at her-- "With 25 guys, I promise you, at least 24 of them were really excited it was you." And at this moment, I literally scream at my television. But, Ashley eats it up. Sigh...

After Bentley talks her down from the ledge, Ashley and the dudes head to a cocktail party because we all know that liquor is going to help this situation improve. William quickly tries to apologize for his comments but really only throws himself on the sword saying he deserves to be sent home and that he's too toxic for her to be around. So, he leaves the building. Ashley just wants some comfort, which clearly cannot be found with William, so she makes out with Ryan instead. This seems to make her feel a little better.

And given the emotional theme of the night, she decides to confront Bentley about the "warning" she had received about him from Crazy Michelle. He doesn't even deny that he is here for "The Wrong Reasons." Just kind of side-steps the issue-- "I will say that it doesn't really apply to what we have going on here at all.... [Crazy] Michelle knows my ex-wife and, um, I wouldn't even say that that would be a great source of information. Yeah."  Wow, what an emphatic denial... Doesn't matter-- Ashley is eating up every bit of crap he's dishing out.

Ryan with the heart-healing lips gets the rose. Which means Bentley's done-- "I'm checking out."

And he's not kidding.  The next day, Bentley packs up his bags, tells the other dudes that he has to go home to his daughter (who I feel an absolute sympathy for by this point).  They all fall for it, much to his evil delight, and wish him well.  He lands on Ashley's doorstep, and instantly she knows something is wrong.  And being the total coward that he is, he blames his leaving on missing his daughter.  And being the total jerk that he is, he leaves Ashley with no closure-- "I still want to keep the dot-dot-dot."  He FINALLY leaves (after contemplating having sex with her to make her stop crying), and Ashley runs sobbing to her bedroom.  "My heart is totally broken. Was I wrong about everything?"  Um, yes.

And just like that, it's time for the One on One Date with JP.  Poor, sweet JP.  He knows Bentley has left and that Ashley is going to be sad.  He shows up with flowers for a nice evening in.  She's clearly still reeling, but JP is probably the perfect guy to deal with it.  They lounge in pajamas before a fire, and he gets the rose.

The next night before the Rose Ceremony, Chris tries to talk some sense into Ashley, who is still completely devastated by Bentley's exit.  He tries to tell her that she wasn't in love with Bentley but more the "idea of him."  But she's not really buying it.  She still thinks he's a great guy who went home because he couldn't be away from his daughter.  Chris even tells her the "dot, dot, dot" was lame and that if Bentley had really wanted to be with her, he would've found a way to make it happen. (Words of wisdom from our host there.)  It appears that Chris might have gotten through slightly to Ashley with this remark, but she still does not feel up to a cocktail party.  And with that, our resident comedian William realizes he will not have a chance to try to redeem his ridiculous behavior.

Ashley gives roses to some guys I've never seen before in my life and bestows the last rose upon William, much to his great relief.  But she sends the Phantom back to his underworld lair.  Poor Phantom is so distraught about Ashley kicking him to the curb that he burns his mask in the fireplace before stating that he doesn't want to be alone for the rest of his life.  I have a few suggestions to improve your odds next time, buddy...

It was a crazy, horrible night.  I knew it would be before I even watched, but it was impossible to stay away from.  I honestly hope that Ashley can pick up the pieces for the rest of the season, but I don't have high hopes for that.
