Random Katie Updates.

Thanksgiving was wonderful.  There was food, family, and football-- the Three F's of Thanksgiving.

Yum, dessert.

My fam

My grandma and me

Mom and me

Donny sent me a starbucks card to enable my caffeine habit.  I love sitting in Starbucks this time of year-- they play the best mix of Christmas tunes!

The Muppets was fantastic.  I could've done without Amy Adams, but Jason Segel was awesome.

Saturday, I put up some Christmas decorations including this little guy.  I had to repossess him from my parents, but he's home with me now.  :)

This note from my boss was in the envelope with my paycheck yesterday.  Made my day!

Black Friday.

I was all set to spend the day in my pajamas in front of the TV and let all of Black Friday happen without me.  But Donny texted me this morning to let me know that Target had Psych seasons 1-4 on DVD for $7.99.  Of course I hopped out of bed and headed out.  (It's completely acceptable to go out in public looking like a hot mess on Black Friday, right??)

So, I made my way to Target and braved the crazy people.  Fortunately, it was around 11am, so there weren't AS MANY crazy people, but it was still nuts.  The first Target I went to was completely picked over, and my DVDs were gone.  But, then I hit up the ghetto Target, and found all sorts of good deals:

Psych DVDs for $7.99 a piece
(Still no season 1, but I'm happy with 2-4)
A Few Good Men DVD for $5
(This is my favorite movie ever.  Can't believe it took me this long to buy it)

Some picture frames for $5.96 each
Room Essentials™ Frame 5x7
And part of Donny's Christmas present that I can't post here but have been searching high and low to find!

All in all, I'd say Black Friday was a success!!  And now I'm off to see The Muppets.  Hope you guys had good luck shopping today too.  :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!  My day will be spent at my parents' house having a quiet, yet incredibly delicious, thanksgiving lunch.  Our family is pretty small anyway, but half of them won't be there.  Just me, my brother, my parents, both grandmothers, and my step-grandfather.  A nice, peaceful day of food, family, and football-- the three F's.  :)

Since it is Thanksgiving, here are just a few of the things I'm thankful for:

My Southwest Rapid Rewards Card-- Without this baby and the 50,000 free miles they gave me this summer, Donny and I would not have been able to see each other practically at all.  I've gotten four-- yes FOUR-- free round trip tickets between NC and TX for free.  And I still have points left.  Thank you, Southwest!

My iPhone-- Seriously, how did I live before this thing??

Pandora and Hulu-- These two websites are the only reason I'm able to maintain some sanity at work some days.
And of course, my wonderful family, fantastic friends, and amazing boyfriend.

I usually consider myself to be a pretty independent person, but I'm realizing more and more how much I need people.  I'm so blessed to have so many people around that love and support me.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

A Return to My Childhood.

Y'all-- I am BEYOND excited about The Muppets!!  I loved the Muppets when I was young-- The Muppets Take Manhattan was my favorite.

But you can bet that tomorrow night, I will be at the theater watching Jason Segel, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, Beaker, Scooter, Animal, and the rest of the gang.  Can't wait!

Tuesday Tunes -- Christmas Edition.

It's been a while since I've done a Tuesday Tunes post.  I've been listening to Christmas music for about a week now.  Yes, I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet.  I usually have a hard and fast rule of no Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving, but this year I decided to be more festive.

So, today you get some of my favorite Christmas songs!  Christmastime is Here is my absolute favorite-- I love the Charlie Brown Christmas and watch it every year.  I always smile when I hear this song.

All I Want for Christmas is You
(I really don't like Mariah Carey, so thank heavens for Michael Buble re-recording this song that I love!)

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

And ps-- if any of you don't have the Michael Buble Christmas album, go see my brand new blog friend Mia Maree (and fellow North Carolinian) to win one!!

What a Difference a Day Makes.

Six months ago today, I woke up in Dallas without any clue that it was a day that would change my world.  But it was.  I showed up to the Fort Worth Stockyards in my cowgirl hat to go to the rodeo and came face to face with one of the most amazing people I've ever met.

The next three days were a blur.  Fast Five at Studio Movie Grill, a Rangers game, and a wandering drive through Dallas to Love Field later, and I was completely smitten.

Since then, there have been a lot of airplanes, text messages, emails, late night phone calls, and cards in the mail.

The last six months have been amazing and wonderful but also somewhat of a roller coaster-- long distance is not for the faint of heart.  Some days it sucks A LOT.  But, I can say it's been absolutely worth it.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

No, not Christmas.  Carolina basketball season!!!

The season officially started last friday, but this weekend is the first home game in Chapel Hill.  For those of you who haven't been around very long, I LOVE Chapel Hill.  It is my favorite place in the world.  And Tar Heel basketball season is the best time of the year.  Go Heels!!

It's Okay.

Its Ok Thursdays

... to be super excited to go to court in another county because it means I'm not in my office.  Even though I have a ton of stuff to do.

... to take 437 things into a dressing room and then decide not to buy any because I really shouldn't spend the money, thereby allowing the sales people earn their paycheck and put it all back.

... to really want to see the movie Like Crazy even though I know it will make me bawl like a baby.

... to constantly check airfare so I can go back to Dallas even though I already have a trip planned for a few weeks from now.

... to be starting to get bored with wedding planning for my friend Amanda after only two weeks.

... to really love the song "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri but to be slightly pissed off that it's from a Twilight movie, which kind of ruins it for me.

Katie's 2011 Sexiest Men Alive.

Yes, ladies-- it is that time of year again!!  This morning, People announced the 2011 Sexiest Man Alive is Bradley Cooper.  And I've got to tell you, unlike last year with Ryan Reynolds, I disagree.  I know lots of you will think I'm crazy, but I've never been a big Bradley Cooper fan.

Bradley Cooper Is PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive! | Bradley Cooper

I haven't picked up the magazine yet, so I haven't seen the men they put inside.  But, I'm certain that a few of my selections will be in there (even though they all should be, obviously).  My list has some repeats from last year (you can check out the 2010 list here), but some new faces too.  So, without further adieu, here is Katie's Top 10 Sexiest Men of 2011 in no particular order.

Busy, Busy Bee.

I feel like I've started my last few blog posts with some kind of busy-ness disclaimer.  Well, today is no different.  Last week, I had something to do every single night after work and every day of the weekend.  And this week is no different.  I haven't had an evening/day to myself in a long time, and it's starting to get to me.

Last Thursday, my dad and I went to see the Munich Symphony Orchestra (with the Gloriae Dei Cantores choir) perform Mozart's Requiem.  It was pretty incredible.  I wasn't all that familiar with the piece before, but I've always loved Mozart.  And this performance did not disappoint.

One of my best friends, Amanda, got engaged a few weeks ago.  She asked me to be her Maid of Honor, and I'm so excited to do it.  We've been in wedding planning mode now for two weeks, and let me tell you--  it is not all fun and games like it's cracked up to be.  We've spent hours online trying to find a good wedding venue (outdoors, can hold 150+ people, preferably in the mountains with a pretty view, etc.).  Then we got up bright and early Saturday morning to head to the mountains to look at some places.

The temperature when we headed out.  Brrrr cold.

Headed out to the middle of nowhere.

Quick photo op with the elk in Banner Elk, NC

Ultimately, our trip was unsuccessful.  We went to four places, and she didn't like any of them.  I don't blame her-- none were all that great.  We did learn some very important lessons though, so it wasn't entirely unproductive.

Sunday, I went to see J. Edgar.  And I must say that I was pretty disappointed.  There wasn't much plot, it jumped around a lot (which doesn't usually bother me, but this felt really abrupt), and it just wasn't all that great.  Leo did a great job as Hoover, and Armie Hammer was fantastic.  It was just that the story wasn't good.

In sporting news from the weekend, my Tar Heels beat Michigan State on the "Carrier Classic"-- a basketball game on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson.  It was pretty cool to watch, and not just because my Heels won.  :)

And the Broncos won this week thanks to Tim Tebow.  Again.

All in all, it was a pretty good week-- just a jam-packed one.  This weekend, I'm definitely taking some me-time.

Dating Back in the Day.

I saw these over at Emma's blog and thought they were hilarious.

Correction-- all women should wear a brassiere on a date.

Sorry Donny!

Unlike men, women LOVE to cry in public.

Maybe if he didn't object to her caresses, he would get her entire attention!

Some girls get more clever when they drink??  That's never been my experience.

Because the date is all about him, you know.

So, what I've learned here is that it's a good thing that I was not born back in the day.  Otherwise, I never would have found a man to put up with me.  Of course, it's pretty much a miracle that Donny puts up with me anyway.
