My New Fave Workout.

I started going to Bikram yoga at the end of December.  And, I really, really love it.  In case you're not familiar,  Bikram yoga is performed in a room heated to 105 degrees and kept at 40% humidity.  The first time I went, it was stifling and hard to breathe.  But now I don't even notice it-- until I start to sweat, that is (which doesn't take long).  It's a great workout-- 90 minutes long and really gets your heart rate up (I wouldn't have thought so before I went, but it does).

I have been going in the evenings, but today I dragged my butt out of bed before the sun was up and went with a friend at 5:30am.  Holy crap, y'all.  Bikram yoga is draining at all times of day, but it has got me seriously dragging today.  I don't know if it's because I've been awake an extra three hours or the Bikram itself.  Either way, this arrangement is going to take some getting used to...

The one thing I do NOT like about it-- the price tag.  Yoga is crazy expensive.  :(  Other than that, though, it's great.  I highly recommend it!

  1. I had a bad experience at yoga so i haven't gone back. If i thought people at my gym would dress appropriately, I might be willing to try again.

  4. I haven't done Bikram specifically- I did a heated yoga that was a mix between Bikram and some type of flow yoga (maybe called vinyasa yoga) but I LOVED IT! Seriously the best workout ever and I felt so great when doing it all around. But like you said- too expensive:-(

  5. I've never been a fan of yoga. I did pilates for a while. Good for you! I'm NOT a morning workout person AT ALL.

  6. Last night was my first night of regular yoga. I don't do well in heat, so the thought of Bikram yoga scares the you know what out of me! You're right about yoga being expensive! I'm glad that my school is offering it because I've always wanted to learn about it. Hopefully it will help me de-stress too! Can't wait to hear more about the Bikram yoga though! Who knows, maybe I'll try it one day.

  8. My gym offers lots of classes with their monthly membership and one of them is Hatha Yoga which is similar to Bikram but the temperature is only set to like 85*. I loooooove it. So relaxing!!

  9. I do my P90X in the mornings...except Yoga days. Yoga X is nearly 2 hours long. And it's so calming that it makes me seeeeepy. So I do those at night and sleep sooo great. Other than that though, I LOVE working out in the morning. All the other workouts give me lots of energy throughout the day.

  11. So weird. I had never heard of Bikram yoga until a few days ago when a friend recommended it to me. I'm trying to find a place around me that offers it!

  12. I had a Groupon for bikram and went to about ten classes - I LOVED IT! It took a class or two to acclimate to the heat, but afterwards I felt great!

  13. I have never been one to wake up to work out - I love getting that accomplished at night. I love Bikram, but I honestly don't know how people can do that every day! Maybe it's that I associate yoga with relaxation and stress relief.

You're right-- it's way expensive. I figured if I wasn't using my gym membership and I was only doing yoga, then it's worth it!

  14. Yoga rocks my world! It was kind of hard to adjust to the more gentle version that prenatal yoga is...but I'm loving that too!
