I Saw the Wizard.

This weekend, my church's day school did a production of The Wizard of Oz (the Andrew Lloyd Webber's version, not  .  It was the first time the school has done any kind of play or musical, and boy did they take on a big one for their inaugural event.  I played in the orchestra for it, and I had such a blast.

The performances were Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday afternoon.  At our rehearsal on Tuesday, I thought there was no way that it would come together.  But, in true theater fashion, it did somehow.  The kids were great.  The Wicked Witch of the West was the best by far, but Dorothy and the Scarecrow were fantastic too.  (BTW-- I didn't realize until this weekend how whiny the character of Dorothy is.  She literally cries or complains the whole time!)

Here are some pictures from the show!  (Note: I was off to the side in the orchestra "pit," so I didn't have the best seat for picture taking.)

Dorothy and her friends
(Complaining about Miss Gultch)

Dorothy goes to see Professor Marvel after running away with Toto

After the tornado, Dorothy wakes up in Munchkinland/Oz

And encounters the Wicked Witch of the West

She meets Scarecrow

And Tinman

And the Cowardly Lion

They travel to the Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz

The Wicked Witch of the West sends her "Flying" Monkey after Dorothy and the Ruby Slippers

The Wizard of Oz isn't so great, but gives the characters their missing items anyway.

For a high school production, I was very impressed.  There were little technical issues (microphones, set changes that weren't the smoothest), but overall it was great.  I'm so glad I got to be a part of it, and can't wait to see what they do next year!
