Book Club Friday: Room.

Happy Friday, y'all!!  This week has absolutely flown by, but I'm so ready for a relaxing weekend of no plans.  It's been forever since I had one of those, and I'm very excited.!  Today, I'm linking up with Heather for Book Club Friday!  I read about Room on multiple blogs recently, so I picked it up and read it the other weekend.

GoodReads Synopsis: To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.

Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, one that relies on her young son's bravery and a lot of luck. What she does not realize is just how unprepared she is for the plan to actually work.

Told entirely in the language of the energetic, pragmatic five-year-old Jack, ROOM is a celebration of resilience and the limitless bond between parent and child, a brilliantly executed novel about what it means to journey from one world to another.

My Thoughts: I thought this book was good. It was totally unlike any book I've ever read, which I always appreciate. I found the narration by the little boy a bit tedious at times, but I eventually got past it. I never fell in love with it, but it definitely kept me hooked.  It didn't take more than three days for me to finish.  I highly recommend that you read it!

  1. I read this a few years ago and it haunted me. I thought about it for a few weeks. It was pretty intense. Like you, I had to get over some of the narration style, but it was a really intriguing and interesting book.

  3. I read this a while back and I liked it & thought it was interesting. It's sad to think that there are actually people who live like this, but unfortunately things like this really happen, so sad and scary.

  7. I had a really hard time with the ending - once they were in the hospital it was just so hard for me to stay interested.
