Another Fantastic Weekend.

Two weekends ago, Donny came for a visit!!  It was his last visit to NC before he moves here in September.  It was also a weekend full of 100+ degree weather, so a lot of the plans I had thought about (baseball games, The Biltmore House, day trips to outdoor places...) were out of the question.

So I picked him up Thursday afternoon at the Charlotte airport.  I wanted to take him to this famous burger place in Charlotte, but it wasn't quite time for dinner.  So we wandered around the city and stumbled upon the NASCAR Hall of Fame!

It was a really cool place.  They had some awesome exhibits, but they also had a lot of interactive things.  You could ride around in cars, perform pit stops, etc.  They also had all the car parts out for you to learn about if you were so inclined.  And of course, the history of the sport and the feature on the 2012 inductees into the HOF.

Tip:  Don't ever take Donny anywhere there are Garfields.  He will want them all.

After the HOF, we went to dinner at Bad Daddy's Burger Bar.  Hear me when I say this:  If you are ever in or near Charlotte, NC, GO HERE!!  Oh my goodness-- it was SO good.  I had a turkey burger that was to die for.  I didn't even take a picture of it before diving in.  Haha.

Friday was a busy morning.  I had to go to court briefly, so I dropped Donny off at the DMV so he could get his NC driver's license while I ran to the courthouse for a bit.  It worked out perfectly because he was done about 20 seconds before I got back.  Then, we went to Greensboro for a potential job interview.  They really liked him, as was proven to me by the fact that this meeting was two and a half hours long.  Fortunately, I had a book with me, and I read almost 150 pages while he was with those people...

After that, we headed to see my brother in his new condo that he just moved into.  It was a cute place right on the edge of downtown, so it's super convenient.  Also convenient for Donny and me was the fact that Drew had just purchased a ginormous new tv.  So, the flatscreen tv he had bought 3 months ago was no longer necessary.  Hello, wedding present for us!!  :)

After a quick visit with Drew's girlfriend Morgan at her work and a quick bite at Zoe's Kitchen, we decided to go see Madea's Witness Protection.  Let's be honest, these are not great movies.  The acting is not good and the plot leaves a lot to be desired.  But Madea is HILARIOUS.  And definitely worth going to see.  Just be aware that if you take a boy, he will probably talk like Madea for several days...

Saturday, we had lunch with my parents and my grandmother and her husband.  We were testing out a potential restaurant for the rehearsal dinner.  We really liked it, but I don't think my parents did.  So, the search continues.  Then we decided to go to the mall (we basically were on the hunt for things to do that had air conditioning).  We found an awesome sale going on at the Gap, and when we checked out, the guy put all our stuff in a baby Gap bag, which I found absolutely hilarious.

Then, we came home and watched the 30 for 30 film No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson.  It was fascinating.  I didn't know anything about the assault trial when he was in high school.  He only marginally came on my radar screen once he was in the NBA, and all I knew about him was that he was a punk.  The movie didn't change my opinion on that, but it was definitely interesting.

Then we spent Sunday morning lounging around, eating yummy homemade banana pancakes, and watching The West Wing.  Perfection.  I also started to develop a cold (not perfection...) and felt pretty crummy as the morning went on.  I managed to pull myself together long enough for us to go to lunch at one of my fave restaurants here, the Village Tavern.  Then we came home, where I promptly fell asleep for a bit on the couch to the sounds of the Yankee game.  The rest of the day was spent just hanging out at home, reading and watching tv.  I tried not to get Donny sick but alas, was unsuccessful.  He went back to Texas bright and early Monday morning with a cold.  :(

Other than two head colds, it was another wonderful weekend for us.  You'd think that saying goodbye at the airport would get easier by the 9th time you do it, but no.  It doesn't.  It sucked just as much as it always has.  Thank goodness that my next trip in August will be out LAST airport goodbye where we're going home to another state.  I'm SO ready to be done with this system and to be living in the same state!  Only 59 more days, people!  :)

Don't forget to link up with the lovely (and also recently-engaged!!!) Meg for Mingle Monday!  :)
