Love Telling This Bad Date Story.

I don't really have a horrible date story myself, so today's post is brought to you by the lovely Laura, who has one of the funniest stories I've ever heard.  So, I asked if she'd share it with y'all here.   Without further ado...

The Meet
We have mutual friends so talked for a while at a party one night-- I hear he's nice, great guy, etc., so I give him my number.  Why not?

He calls me several times the next week or so and wants to "hang out."  Excuse me? You don't ask a girl to "hang out"-- you ask her to dinner.  I decided until he asked me to dinner I was going to make excuses why I couldn't see him and not settle for anything less.  Ultimately, he got a clue and asked me to dinner.

The Date
The night we are supposed to go out, he calls to ask where I want to go. I have to pick??  Already things are not looking promising.

He picks me up, and the dude didn't bother to get his car washed or even clean the junk out of it. I think I saw a small life raft and a mannequin back there.  Seriously.  Come on... first dates are about putting your best foot forward and his best foot was buried in the piles of crap in that Tahoe.  Also, one of the headlights kept popping out and he had to get out and pop it back in.  Yep.

We finally get to the restaurant and I ask him the usual questions (about his job, family, school, etc.) Here's a brief re-cap of what I got.

1. His job-- He's a lawyer that works freelance, and if you want to know how much he makes in a year, feel free to ask me because he actually told me.

2. His family-- He has four siblings, and they are all 2 years apart. He would not tell me his age, just that he's 2 years younger than his 40 year old brother, "so I should be able to figure out the math."  Ummm... so you're 38?  And you won't tell me because...??

3. I ask him about his sisters and if they have kids, etc. He doesn't know if his sisters are even married or even where they live because he hasn't talked to them in 20 years. I didn't want to pry, but I had to ask if they had a falling out.  Nope, they just never had much in common and lost touch.  What?? My brother likes hunting and being outside and we still talk to each other.

After dinner we go back to his place for a glass of wine before we head to meet some of his friends. BIG mistake bringing me there. Here's a brief recap of his apartment:

1. It's in the ghettoooooo. (Insert song here.) Seriously. Chipping stucco, roof tiles falling off, gunshots in the window kind of ghetto.

2. I thought maybe the inside would be better. I've seen people turn crappy places into a cute, nice place to live. No such luck. His sofa looked like it came from the curb on large item pick up day ten years ago. I have to sit around stains the size of Texas. There is also a huge fish tank, which is empty and dirty.  And there are papers everywhere.

3. Two cats.  Surprisingly, the apartment did not have a foul odor often associated with felines and litter boxes.  But, I was wearing black pants, and one of the cats was white. Gross.

4. He did have a flatscreen the size of the jumbo screens at Cowboys Stadium. I see he has his priorities in order.

We leave and go meet his friends, and it turns out I know almost all of them. Why did they not warn me!  As the date ends I'm already sure I will not be going out with him again.  But apparently he has a different idea...

The Aftermath
The next day he calls me, but of course I don't answer.  He leaves a voice mail then multiple texts when I don't respond to said voice mail immediately.   This repeats Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, (not Wednesday-- I get a break that day), Thursday, and Friday.  I never respond. Then, I run into him Friday when we're incidentally at the same place.

He follows me around that whole night, and when I leave with a group of friends, he sends me a text: "Can yhou be honest with me? Why did you ignor me all night?" (Someone was drunk or can't spell. I'm going for can't spell.)

My response: "I think you are a great guy (haha), and I had a good time getting to know you (good as in you are giving me fodder for a great story to tell), but I'm just out of a relationship and it's a little too much too soon (if I really liked you I would be ecstatic you were calling me)."

His reply: "That's is one of the most BS things I have ever heard. (yes, you are right, it was) you don't know me at all (yeah, you won't even tell me how old you are). Too much? A date and saying hello at a function too much?"

Me: "This is exactly my point. At this time in my life I don't want a guy calling me every day and expecting things from me. Yes. It's to much for me right now. I should NOT have to be dealing with this after going out once."

Him: "I did not call you every day - weird you would even say that." (REALLY!? Do you WANT me to screen shot my call log?  It's LITERALLY every day with missed calls from you.  Okay, you didn't call me Wednesday-- I guess that's what you meant by not calling me every day.)

Me: "Not going to argue... night."  But I couldn't resist -- I screen shot the call log and proved him wrong. Never heard from him again-- guess that screen shot ended our short tryst.

My dating life now? I'm dating an amazing guy in the same group. Ha!  Don't worry ladies... sometimes you DO have to go on dates with the toads to find the prince. I'm a perfect example!

Loved This Date.

Today's topic for the Fab V-Day Challenge hosted by Casey, Amber, and Neely is "Loved This Date-- Best Date Ever."

Due to the long distance, Donny and I have never really ever had a "date" where he comes and picks me up and we go out somewhere.  We pick each other up at the airport and then drop off a few days later instead!  :)  But, one of my favorite days we've had together was during his first trip here in September of last year.

First stop that morning was Blowing Rock, NC (which is one of my fave places in NC).  The Blowing Rock park itself is cute (a little small) but has amazing views and is great for picture-taking.  Then, we went into the town, walked around in all the cute little shops, and had lunch.  After BR, we went to Grandfather Mountain where I conquered my fear of the Mile High Bridge (The Bachelor producers would be proud).

I almost had a panic attack driving down the mountain, but I survived.  After we got back to where I live, we had dinner with some of my friends, who were excited to meet Donny.

We spent the whole day laughing and talking and just being relaxed and fun.  Loved it.  :)

Q/A with Katie-- Part 1.

I'm sure y'all have seen these Q&A posts around.  Some of my fave ladies have tagged me, so I'm joining in!  However, I'm making up my own rules (I'm a rebel-- deal with it) and not listing 11 facts.  I think all these questions are plenty!  In order to not have one super long post, I'm splitting them up into multiple posts.

First up-- Questions from Meghan!

1. What is the meaning behind your blog name?
Nothing really profound.  My name is obviously Katie, and I write about my life.

2. Who is a blogger you look up to?
I don't know if there's any blogger that I "look up to" per se.  But there are plenty that I love.  And you can find a (very incomplete) list here.

3. What is one thing on your bucket list?
Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

4. If you could have any kind of pet what would it be?
A puggle!!  I love these dogs.

5. If you could only go to one concert, who would it be?
Easy-- Billy Joel.

6. How did you find out that Santa wasn't real?
I asked my mom to be honest with me-- she and my dad were Santa, weren't they?  And she said yes.  I was a rather discerning child.

7. What is something that is currently popular that you can't understand why it's popular(i.e. a certain product, TV show, website, whatever.)
The whole vampire phenomenon.  I just don't get it.  This isn't sexy to me...

8. If you could have one superpower what would it be?
I'd be able to fly so that it wouldn't matter that Donny is in Texas and I'm in North Carolina.  Also, would it be considered a superpower to be able to make my trees grow money??  If so, I pick that instead.  I can always pay for my flights with my tree-grown cash.

9. If I were to look on your DVR/tivo, what would I be surprised to find?
Hmm... probably not much.  Although I do record and watch General Hospital.  My college roommate got me hooked, and I love it.

10. If you could go back and re-do one thing from your past, would you, and what would that one thing be?
Nothing.  Everything in my past has led me here, and I'm so happy where I am.  So I wouldn't change anything.

11. Do you have a lucky number?

Next are the Questions from Legally Lovely:

1. Are you a Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda, or Carrie?
Well, I'm a lawyer like Miranda, but I'm don't think I'm anything like her.  I don't think I'm really like any of them.  Although if I had to pick, I'd say Carrie is the closest.

2. If you could go on a date with ONE Hollywood hunk, who would it be?
James Roday-- he's so funny!

3. A plane just landed in front of your house. Where are you going on an impromptu vacay?
Dallas, duh.  But, assuming that wasn't an option or Donny was with me, I'd go to some island in the south Pacific (Fiji, Tahiti, Bali...).  I want to stay in one of these huts!

4. If you were on The Bachelorette, what over-the-top date would you plan?
A trip to Yankee Stadium-- on Opening Day or during the World Series.

5. If you could switch bodies with one person for a day, who would it be?
Brooklyn Decker-- quite possibly the perfect female specimen.  Except I want to keep my hair.

6. What is your favorite book?
Oh, that's impossible to pick.  Some of my faves are Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Eve's Daughters by Lynn Austin, and The Last Juror by John Grisham.

7. What is your absolute dream job?
In-house counsel for the New York Yankees!

8. What are three words that you would use to describe yourself at 8am?
Sleepy, unkempt, and (possibly) cranky.

9. You're lost in the Amazon for a day. Who do you want with you, and what one item do you have?
Donny and some sunscreen-- gotta keep my super pale skin from burning!

10. Would you rather hitch a ride on the space shuttle, or get a brand new car of your choosing?
Brand new car.  I have NO desire to go into outer space.  And for the record, this is my dream car:

11. What is your idea of a perfect Friday night?
Cuddling on the couch with my boo watching a movie or tv.

12. What is one embarrassing fact about yourself that you would normally never blog about, but now you have to?
Pssh-- yeah right.  Nice try, Emma!!  If I haven't blogged about it by now, there's a reason!  But, here's a funny embarrassing story that I'll tell.  :)

Rob Lowe Does Creepy Well.

It's Friday-- FINALLY!  This week has been my first five-day work week in a while, and it definitely felt super long.  Yeah, that qualifies for a #firstworldpains.

Since it's Friday, that means it's time for one of my fave linkups-- Boob Tube Babble with Neely and Ashley!

Boob Tube Babble
Y'all, I have never seen Rob Lowe so creepy as he was in Drew Peterson: Untouchable.

Even with the weird mustache and constant squinting, his portrayal of Drew Peterson was phenomenal.  Of course, I always wonder how much of the events are completely made up-- obviously his wife is gone and can't tell her stories, and he's not spilling.  The scene at her sister's funeral where he accused her of having an affair with her brother-in-law was particularly disturbing.

Anybody else watch?  Thoughts?

It's That Time Again.

It's Oscar time!  Last year was my first year successfully seeing all the movies (or "films" if you prefer) nominated for Best Picture.  There were some fantastic movies on that list.  So, when this year's nominations came out, I was pretty disappointed.

Best Picture
The Artist
The Descendants
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
The Help
Midnight in Paris
The Tree of Life
War Horse

I have only seen two of these movies (The Help and Moneyball), and I had specifically rejected going to see others (The Descendants, EL&IC, and War Horse).  So, I don't know if I'm going to be able to (or even TRY) to watch all of them this year.  I am looking forward to Midnight in Paris and Hugo.  Even The Artist looks pretty interesting.  I had never even heard of The Tree of Life before this week, so who knows-- maybe it will be good.

But, I've got to say that 2011 must have been a bad year for movies if these are the best 9.  Oh, and no nomination for Ides of March??  I didn't love it, but it got a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.  So I was pretty surprised that it wasn't nominated for Best Picture as well, especially considering there are only nine nominees this year instead of 10.

Here are the other nominations (at least, the important ones). Any movie on this list that I absolutely need to see? Or avoid?

Fires, Horses, and Tears.

I haven't posted a Bachelor recap since the first night.  But, I'm breaking my silence today.  It seems like every season, I think they could not find crazier women.  And then the next season, they outdo themselves. Also, the dates don't seem to be all that spectacular anymore.  Maybe it's just me and the fact that I'm not an outdoorsy girl, but hanging out in Park City, Utah doesn't seem exciting.

Rachel's One-on-One
It's obviously not that exciting to Rachel either because on her one-on-one date, she and Ben have zero to talk about.  The best they can do is, "this is nice!" as a bajillion bugs swarm around them in a frenzy.  At dinner, Ben's trying to have a conversation with her about their relationship, and her response is, "wow this fire is hot."  Um, way to show you're interested.  Whatever-- she tells him she has a hard time opening up, so she gets the rose.  I don't hate her, but she's not at the top of my list.

Group Date
Ben arrives on a horse.  My first thoughts were: "Oh no.... horses.  Horses and fly fishing.  Worst. Date. Ever."  As it turns out... I was right.

"Catching a fish probably isn't that much harder than catching a man.  I've done that before."  Oh, Courtney.  Anyone else think she sounds like a stalker in one of those movies right before she goes absolutely crazy and massacres everyone?  Of course she catches the only fish.

"Mustard's my favorite condiment."  Oh Ben, you smooth talker.  I'm starting to rethink my position.  Maybe it isn't the women that are horrible-- maybe it's Ben.

Samantha-- "I have such crazy feelings for this guy that I feel like I should already have a ring on my finger!"  Um, what??  You've been on three group dates, and you feel ready to marry this guy??  No.  (Sidenote-- I don't even know who this girl is-- I swear I've never seen her before.)  Turns out not to matter-- Ben kicks her to the curb after she whines about only getting group dates.

Ben kisses Kacie to reassure her of his feelings, but Courtney successfully manipulates the rose out of him much to the chagrin of EVERYONE.

Jennifer's One-on-One
Jennifer's date is ridiculous.  They fall into a hole and listen to some country music.  Honestly, I lost interest, so there's no more details for this one.

Cocktail Party & Rose Ceremony
The cocktail party becomes the Emily vs. Courtney party.  Emily makes the normally-fatal mistake of telling the Bachelor about the mean girl in the house.  Has she never seen this show??  It's never good for the girl who feels the need to spill the beans, but she squeaked by this week.  There's a lot more staged drama between Courtney and Emily, and Emily cries a lot.  Fast forward...

Girls who already have roses:  Courtney, Jennifer, and Stacy
Girls who get roses:  Lindze, Jamie, Nicki, Kacie, Elyse, Blakely, Casey, Emily
The one leaving-- Monica

Next time on The Bachelor-- we hit Vieques, Puerto Rico!  Courtney feels the need to tell everyone she was  there two months ago.  I wonder if she stripped to get a man's attention that time too...

Makeup Monday-- Quick Eye Look.

Urban Decay released these shadow pencils a while ago, and I wanted to try them.  But they were $20 a piece, and I wasn't going to spend a lot of money to get several colors.

Then, Sephora put this set of mini-pencils on sale for $19! So, I bought them. And they are PERFECT for days when I don't have a lot of time to do a full eye look.

I used "Sin" on the lid to the crease, "Juju" in the outer corner and into the crease, and "Rehab" as a liner.  I just used my fingers to smudge the first two colors a bit.  Add a coat of my fave Clinique Lash doubling mascara, and I'm done!  The whole process took just a few minutes.

I do miss having a highlighting color in the inner corner and on the brow bone, not to mention a darker eyeliner.  But, on days when I am rushing out the door, this is perfect.

The shadow sticks are great, and I highly recommend them!!  My only tip is to blend them quickly after applying.  Once they're set, they're not budging.

Big Bang Theory Hilarity.

Boob Tube Babble
This is from last week's episode of Big Bang Theory, but I just watched it yesterday.  Oh my gosh, I died laughing and had to share with y'all!

This clip is my favorite BBT moment from the whole series. (A little background... Earlier in the episode, Sheldon planned to have multiple presents ready for Penny so he could give her a present equal in value to the one she gave him. This is how it turned out.)

If you're not watching Big Bang Theory, you are missing out!

Shopping Victory.

Fun fact about me-- I love David Yurman jewelry.  LOVE it.  Some of my faves are blue topaz rings, like these, which range anywhere from $600-$1500.

That's obviously not in the budget.  But at Dillard's last weekend, I found this beauty that is a great David Yurman dupe:

And the best part is that it was only $11!  Got the Yurman look at a fraction of the price.  Score!
