My Week in Numbers.

472-- Number of wedding dresses I think I tried on last Saturday.

3-- Number of wedding dresses I've narrowed it down to!!!

4-- Number of grocery stores I had to go to until I finally found these!

286-- Pages of Catching Fire I read after midnight to finish the book on Tuesday because I couldn't stop.

1-- Dinner with the BFF at Chipotle.  Seriously, is there a better place in this world?  I don't think so.

5-- Episodes of Happy Endings I had stored on my DVR that I watched this week.  (ps-- if you're not watching this show, you're missing out!)

50-- Days until I see Donny again.  :(

It's Okay...

Its Ok Thursdays

I'm kind of in a funk today for some unknown reason, so I've decided that it's okay...

... to not wear makeup to work.

... to stop at Starbucks even though I knew it was going to make me late this morning.  (A big thanks to my love for enabling funding my habit.  :))

... to close my office door and watch Psych and Modern Family reruns on hulu and netflix while I catch up on paperwork.

... to think that my boss should be grateful I came in at all today since I didn't have to go to court this morning.

... to really, REALLY want some Gigi's Cupcakes.  (Thank goodness there's not one near me!)

... to be counting the hours until I can go home and read Mockingjay, which I have deliberately not started yet because I didn't have an evening to devote completely to it.  After Catching Fire, I don't know if I'll be able to put it down!

My Boo is a Comedian-- Vol III.

Like a lot of guys, Donny didn't understand how I got so attached to the Hunger Games books, why in the world I went to the movie at midnight, then again three days later, etc. So, when I told him that next on my to-read list was the Twilight series, he didn't take it so well...

Me:  I've decided to read the Twilight series.
D:  What are you, 14?

.... Later...

Me:  I got the book!
D:  Why why why??
Me:  Curiosity.
D:  Let me sum it up for you.  There's an emo chick who is weird/confused/lost, but she falls in love with werewolf boy and glittery vampire boy. Then she's got to decide which freak of nature to spend the rest of her adolescence with... You know, until she grows up and realizes that the whole premise is ridiculous.
Me:  You know that's going on the blog, right?

The (Almost) Newlywed Game.

Today, I'm linking up with Megan for The Newlywed Game! (ps-- I wonder what happened to that show. It would be fun to watch now as an adult.) Feel free to join in-- you don't have to be married (obviously, since we aren't yet)!

What do you think my best quality is?
I think how reasonable you are is your best quality. Having (like most of us) dealt with unreasonable people in the past, I appreciate that most.

The first thing that comes to mind is how hilarious you are. But I think your best quality is how unselfishly you care about people and try to help them-- your family, your Little Brother, even people you've never met. I love that about you.

What would be your ideal date with me?

I can't think of an "ideal date," just being with you would suffice. For the purpose of this, I guess I would say dinner and an empty movie theater so people wouldn't get mad when we make fun of the movie and laugh our way through serious moments.

Spending the afternoon at a baseball game then coming home and having the evening to watch tv/movies and cuddle on the couch.

What was your first impression of me?

My first impression was, "Wow, I think she's offended by this calf-roping. That's funny." [In my defense, it was my first rodeo! I had no idea they tortured baby cows!!]

That you were really funny. Within five minutes of talking to you, I was laughing hysterically.

What is your favorite memory of us?

My first trip to North Carolina when we went to Grandfather Mountain. I had no idea until then that you were scared of heights, but I got you to the top and on the bridge that goes between the two peaks of the mountain.

I LOVE when I get off a plane at the airport and finally get to see you after weeks/months of being apart. But my favorite memory is coming down the steps at Love Field in February, seeing you walking toward me, and you getting down on one knee to propose.

What do you see for us in the future?

Our future consists of growing old together. I hope you're ok with that.

A long, happy life together. :)

This was fun! Donny was a good sport about it too because I didn't get him the questions until after he had gone to bed last night. But, before I woke up this morning, he had sent his answers to me. :)

Book Club Friday.

Over the last few weeks, Donny and I read Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Married by Gary Chapman.  You might be familiar with him as the author of The Five Love Languages (which is also in our queue to read).

Synopsis: Gary Chapman writes, "Most people spend far more time in preparation for their vocation than they do in preparation for marriage." No wonder the divorce rate hovers around fifty percent. Bestselling author and marriage counselor Gary Chapman hopes to change that with his newest book. Gary, with more than 35 years of experience counseling couples, believes that divorce is the lack of preparation for marriage and the failure to learn the skills of working together as intimate teammates. So he put together this practical little book, packed with wisdom and tips that will help many develop the loving, supportive and mutually beneficial marriage men and women long for. It's the type of information Gary himself wished he had before he got married. The material lends itself to heart-felt discussions by dating or engaged couples.

This book was great!  It brought up several practical issues I hadn't thought about, and Donny and I were able to discuss them now instead of having potential conflict later.  There's also great section on conflict resolution (that's really appropriate or any type of relationship).  The chapters are short and there are guided discussion questions if you want to use them.  All in all, I'd highly recommend it if you're engaged or dating to help you think about some issues that you might not have considered.  Or even if you're married, it would be useful.  Great book!!

I Gave In.

To the Hunger Games, that is.

I read the first book last week, and LOVED it.  It wasn't really at all what I anticipated, but so good.  I've never read anything like it.  It was good in the beginning, but once they got into the actual games it was almost impossible for me to put down.  Even while Donny was here... Ha.

Tonight, my BFF and I are going to the midnight showing of the movie!  I've actually never been to a midnight showing of any movie, so I'm super excited!!

Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday-- Monograms.

I've never been a big fan of monograms, which is a little weird since I'm from the south.  But, since getting engaged, I've become slightly obsessed with having my new initials on everything.

On my phone...

And around my wrist or neck...

My new monogram will be kHf, just in case you're looking to buy me a present...  :)

The Great Gatsby.

Have y'all heard about the new Great Gatsby movie??  I had no idea it was being re-made, although it's apparently not recent news.  But I'm so stoked.  The Great Gatsby was my favorite book we read in school.  Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio as Daisy and Gatsby?  Absolutely perfect casting.  It's supposedly set to be released on Christmas Day this year, and I can't wait!

Wedding Wednesday-- Vol. III

I don't have much of a wedding update to share this week, but saw this a bit ago on Sar's blog, and I absolutely died.

I've also resolved that I'm not going to wear anything other than t-shirts that say "Bride" or "The Future Mrs." bedazzled on them until November 10.

I've put my MoH Emily in charge of securing these items for me.

It's Over.

This season of The Bachelor has come to an end.

Ben has picked Courtney, much to everyone's dismay but no one's surprise.

The finale wasn't very dramatic at all.  The only scene that stuck out with me was Courtney's visit with Ben's family.  It was almost scripted the way they "pre-judged" her then once they met her discovered how "delightful" she is and gave Ben their blessing about her.  Oh please.

Then it was time for the "most dramatic" After the Final Rose ever.  Turns out that Ben basically dropped Courtney like a hot potato when he started watching the show.  And that was when I started my transition to Team Courtney.

What Ben basically said was that he saw the behavior that Courtney had already apologized for and he didn't know if he could be with her.  After he promised to "love her forever."  I don't know or care if her apology to him a few weeks ago was sincere.  The point is that HE believed that it was.  And after all that, he still decided to walk away.  If he's that quick to pick up and run, I'd be terrified that at the first sign of REAL trouble, he'd do it again.  That's not a pattern I'd want to accept if I was Courtney.

I genuinely hope that they have a long, happy life together.  But, I guess time will tell.

Engagement Aftermath.

Since Donny and I don't live in the same state, there won't be an official "engagement party" for us.  But, my friends have been so excited that they've wanted to celebrate anyway.  (ps-- some these pics are super old, but whatever.)

The night I got home from Dallas (super late due to stupid air travel delays),
Emily and April took me out to the only place open that late in their town.
We got a bottle of champagne, and you can see the only ice bucket this place had.

I came to work the next day to the arrival of these beauties from Donny
since I spent Valentine's Day on an airplane.  :)

Donny's mom sent me this gift set from Starbucks.  She's too sweet!

Since it was around Valentine's Day, the people at work got
some very appropriate doughnuts for my "engagement breakfast."

Then my small group had a special dinner for me.

Emily cooked some delicious jambalaya, and April made
cheese-less cheesecake.  (It's make with tofu instead.)

Holy cow, it was AMAZING.
I need to get the recipe from her...

Everybody has been so excited for us-- including you guys, my blog and twitter friends.  I've felt so loved this past month.  Thank you for all your support and congratulations!  It means so much.  :)

Child Abuse for Profit.

I know this video is not new, but I just finally got around to watching it.  And while I initially laughed so hard I almost cried, the more I watched and thought about it, the sadder it made me.

You can watch the long-version here.

This girl has been scarred for life because of her crazy parents.  Not just with the "go-go juice" and the crazy pageant-ing.  But now they have allowed her to make a complete fool of herself on television.  Like this video isn't going to haunt her for the rest of her life?  I don't know how parents think it's okay to do this to their child.

Oh I forgot-- it's all about $$$$...

Happy Friday!

A friend of mine sent this to me, and I couldn't not share it.  I laughed so hard...  Enjoy!  :)

February Review and New March Goals.

Here were my goals for February:
Read two books-- Success!  Reviews here.
Cook in my crock pot at least once-- Fail.
Do something I've never done before-- Success!
Go to orchestra rehearsal three out of five weeks-- Fail.  I went twice.
Blog at least 16 times-- I blogged 15, so that's close.

Buy no more than five meals per week-- I did really well on this early in the month.  Then I went to Dallas, and all hell broke loose...
Spend no more than $50 on beauty products-- Success!  I actually spent $0 on beauty products, which hasn't happened in a LOOOOONG time.
Save an additional $300 above my normal saving-- Well, this got spent on wedding items, which was the reason I wanted to save it.  So, not technically a success, but not an abject failure either.

Work out at least 4x a week-- There was one week where I only got two, but the other three weeks were a Success!
Try at least one new workout/class-- Success
Lose 5 lbs-- Success!  I actually lost 5.2 lbs.  :)

I actually did pretty well!  I REALLY need to rein my eating out though.  So, that's where I'm gonna focus my discipline this month.

My goals for March are basically the same with a few tweaks.

Read two books
Cook in my crock pot
Do something I've never done before
Go to orchestra rehearsal three out of four weeks
Blog at least 16 times

Buy no more than five meals per week
Spend no more than $50 on beauty products
Spend $250 less than I spent in February

Work out at least 4x a week
Try at least one new workout/class
Lose 5 more lbs

My Boo Is a Comedian -- Vol II.

First, an admission:  I like Chris Brown.  Don't judge.  Some of his music is awesome.  I don't love all of it, and I certainly don't approve of his behavior.  But, I like his songs, and they're especially great to dance to, which is the kind of music you need at a wedding reception.  Donny doesn't exactly agree.

So, our wedding website has a page where guests can go and either request that we play or exclude particular songs.  And, today I got this email from the webmaster that someone named "Ken Adams" had made such a request.  (ps-- if you don't know/remember who Ken Adams is, you need to be watching better tv.)

I knew IMMEDIATELY that this was Donny.  Nice try, babe. Sneakily trying to eliminate good dance music from the wedding...  Well, we'll see about that!
