On My Reading List.

I haven't been reading at a pace like I have in the past.  I guess that's to be expected with wedding planning and all that is involved with it.  So, books keep getting added to my "to-read" list faster than I can get ones off!  Here are some on my list right now:

Certain Girls, Best Friends Forever, and Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner

Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe

The Innocent Man by John Grisham

Where We Belong by Emily Giffin

The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain

Top of the Rock: Inside the Rise and Fall of Must See TV by Warren Littlefield

I'll probably take three of these to Texas with me next weekend.  I can usually finish at least two thanks to air travel.  Any other recommendations for me?  And don't say 50 Shades of Grey... Haha

Sunday Social.

1. What is your dream job?  You mean other than being a lady of leisure? ;) I'd love to work for the New York Yankees. I do have a law degree, so General Counsel for the Yankees makes sense. But anything that lets me go to all the games and pays me enough to live in Manhattan would work too!

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?  I'd travel the world.  Go wherever I wanted for however long I wanted with no agenda.  I imagine that we'd go to Africa (Donny's pet place) and Ukraine/Russia (mine) and do some missions work in those places.  Sightseeing in Paris, London, Rome, Vienna, St. Petersburg, Jerusalem, Bombay, Beijing, Rio de Janiero, etc...  I've always wanted to do a WWII-like tour from Normandy to Berlin too.

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a trial lawyer.  And so, that's what I did.

4. What piece career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?  Oh my gosh, this is a hard question.  I'd tell new lawyers to try out a variety of different fields.  When I graduated law school, I had the fortune to work at a firm that let me try out a bunch of different types of law to find what I liked.  I did some bankruptcy, disability, family law, estate work, general civil litigation, and obviously criminal law.  Don't get stuck doing something you hate just because that's what you started out doing.

5. Biggest Pet Peeves Oh, this is a list... People who forward those stupid chain emails, bad grammar/spelling, when people post something whiny on facebook/twitter just to get attention, people who drive slow and get in my way, when I go to reply to a blog comment and see ""... I could go on.

6. Biggest Fears  Honestly, my biggest fear right now is being so close to the wedding and some disaster striking.  Something happening to Donny or me, him calling off the wedding (which just happened to my friend who was getting married this October...), or something else that ruins everything.  Other than that, I'm terrified of heights and bridges-- my palms get sweaty and my heart rate gets elevated just seeing people on the roof of a building on television.

Team USA!

Tonight is the opening ceremonies for the Olympics!!  I'm so excited-- I LOVE the Olympics!  Winter, Summer-- I love them both.  I'm especially looking forward to...

Gymnastics-- it's probably my favorite event.  These people are incredibly strong and capable of some crazy awesome stuff.  So cool to watch.

Diving-- I always thought it would be so fun to dive.

Tennis-- Of course, tennis is one of my fave events.  I'm super stoked about the mixed doubles event that is making a comeback this year!

Synchronized Swimming-- Y'all, I am fascinated by the synchronized swimming.  It's a little creepy, but I can't not watch it.

Swimming-- And of course, the real swimming!

What are y'all looking forward to most?

It's Okay...

Its Ok Thursdays

... to wish that time would speed up and slow down at the same time.

... to find it odd that people post personal things on social media but then get upset when others "pry" by asking how things are.  If you don't want people to know or ask, don't put it out there for the world to see!

... to be a little sad that my mail has been empty for a several days after a few weeks of getting of packages in the mail.

... to be annoyed by the overreaction to the Chick-fil-a controversy by people on both sides.

... to be completely distraught over the fact that my hairstylist for the last year has quit doing hair three months before my wedding and has totally dropped off the earth.  How am I supposed to find someone I trust by the wedding?

Katie Lately...

... My hair is the longest it's been in my whole life.  I can easily reach around my back and grab a handful.  So, I decided to straighten it last weekend to see how long it really is, and holy cow.  I need a haircut... Lol

... My two big tasks for July were to buy Donny's wedding ring and his birthday presents, both of which I have to take to Dallas next week.  And I had them both accomplished before I even saw the reminder in my planner!  Haha

I'm so excited about the stuff I got him!  I wish I could share it with y'all, but since he reads the blog, you'll have to wait until after his birthday next week just like him!

... Friday, I left work a little early and went to see The Dark Knight Rises.  I have loved Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, but they're very dark.  So, I was a little apprehensive about going, especially by myself (which is odd-- I love going to the movies alone).  And the movie was definitely dark and hopeless at times.  But, there's something about a satisfying ending that makes a movie great.  And, that's how I felt about this one.  I did not love it while a lot of it was happening, but I left the theater thinking it was fantastic.  It's definitely one you should see in theaters!

... After the movie, I picked up Emily to help her with some errands since her car was dead, and she bought us Mexican for dinner.  Yum.  As soon as we sat down though, she leaned across the table to tell me that the guy in the booth behind her was someone she had been out with on a terribly awkward date.  So, she got a huge "medium" margarita.  Because, you know, tequila makes awkward situations better.  We all did a great job of pretending the other person wasn't there.  Except me-- I was laughing hysterically pretty much all through dinner.

... Sunday, my mom and I decided to attempt to make sugar cookies decorated with royal icing.  Annie has never steered me wrong, so I used her recipe for the cookies and tutorial for the icing.

They turned out okay. I didn't love the flavor of the cookies. And, they also took FOREVER to make. We had thought maybe these would be good ideas for wedding favors. But, the thought of baking, icing, and decorating up to 100 of these is insane. So, there will not be homemade decorated cookies for the wedding unless someone else wants to make them.

... Last night, I went to the mall in search of a pink cardigan.  And ended up with so much more...

Fortunately, almost all of it was on sale!  I knew I shouldn't have walked into Express, but I couldn't help it.  The dresses were calling to me...  And Old Navy next door?  I was done for.  We'll see what actually makes the cut, and what goes back.

... Y'all-- I love Chipotle.  A lot.  It's been a while since I've been there, but there's one right outside the entrance of the mall, so I stopped in.  And this one is so weird.  I've been there before when they've run out of guacamole, lettuce, meat, you name it.  It always seems to be after 8pm when they stop making food.  And last night AGAIN, they ran out of chicken.  The guy told me they were cooking some more, but it was going to be at least 10 minutes.  How hard is it to realize that you're running a little low on chicken, so you might want to throw some on a grill?  No, no-- it's better to wait until you're out completely, someone walks in and wants some, THEN grill up another batch.  Duh.  Anyway, I got steak instead.  And it was NOT the same.  I didn't love it.  Bring back the chicken!

It's Okay.

Happy Thursday, y'all!  It's been a bit of an up and down week.  I've survived three days already-- two to go.  Today I'm linking up with Amber and Neely again for It's Okay Thursday!

Its Ok Thursdays

It's Okay...

... to cry at the finale of Ally McBeal, which ended ten years ago.  And then immediately want to start the series over again.

... to be annoyed when people go off-script.

... to really wish some days that I was a lady of leisure.

... to have stayed up much too late every night this week for no reason at all.

... to be totally unfocused this week.  My ADD has been out of control.

What I'm Loving Wednesday.

... I'm loving that Holly asked me to take over her blog for a day! You can find me here today talking about about my love/hate relationship with summer.

... I'm loving how much progress I've made the last two weeks in wedding planning.  I've purchased parts of my bridesmaids gifts, gotten contracts from our florist and videographer (only one vendor left!), and started putting together a "must play" and "absolutely positively DO NOT play" list for our DJ.  We've also decided on our first dance song and wedding favors.  And, we've bought our wedding bands.  Yeah, it's been kind of frantic the last few weeks.  But, we've less than four months, people!!  Holy cow...

... I'm loving the Yankees!  They've won 8 out of their last 10 games (including 3 of 4 against the Red Sox), and have the best record in baseball.  And, our ace CC Sabathia was activated off the DL last night, and pitched six scoreless innings.

... I'm loving that in two weeks, I'll be in Texas again with Donny.  I realize he just left sixteen days ago, but it feels like FOREVER.

... I'm loving that some of his close family friends are hosting a shower/party for us.  So many people from Texas aren't going to be able to come to the wedding here in NC, so I'm so excited that they'll get a chance to celebrate with us.

Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday Randoms.

... My favorite sunglasses broke.  I'm the world's worst at keeping track of anything sunglasses, and these had actually survived for over a year.  I'm very sad to see them go.

... I won Neely's giveaway a few weeks ago for a personalized otterbox from Spotted Whimsy Design, and I'm LOVING this iPhone case!  I also love that it has my new monogram on it even if it is a little early.  :)

... I made this Beef Stroganoff in the crock pot last week that I found on pinterest.  I used greek yogurt instead of sour cream and cream cheese, and it worked great!  It needed a little more flavor and creaminess, so I'll put in some more yogurt next time.  But otherwise, it was delish!

... I spent a ridiculous amount of time yesterday on etsy trying to figure out bridesmaid gifts.  I think I have a quasi-plan now, but if y'all have gotten some fantastic gift or have any ideas/suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

My Boo: The Early Years.

Last week, Donny's mom sent me a bunch of pictures of him when he was growing up.  And omg... he couldn't have been cuter.

I cracked up when I saw this one because he still makes this face when something is really funny.  Love it!

Mr. Smooth...

PS-- how thankful am I that Donny has neither a blog nor pictures of me when I was young... Hahaha.

Sunday Social- Travel.

1. What is the best trip you've ever been on?  Easy-- my trip to Dallas last May when I met Donny.

Other than that, I'd say the cruise to the Bahamas and Key West I went on with my friend Sarah a couple years ago.  It was my first real vacation as a "career woman," and it was AMAZING and totally relaxing.  Just the getaway I needed.

2. What is your best idea for a girls weekend trip?  The beach!!  I live only a few hours from the NC and SC coast, so we usually head to the beach at least one weekend a year.

3. What is your best idea for a couples trip?  Anywhere y'all would like to go.  The ideal trip for Donny and me would be somewhere with lots to do and explore-- New York, Boston, Chicago, etc.

Or, you know, Tahiti...

4. What is the best vacation on the cheap?  A cruise.  You can get awesome deals on cruises, and your food and most entertainment is included in the price.  We looked at possible cruises for our honeymoon, and in the fall, you can do a week long cruise for less than $400 a person.  You'd spend that much on a hotel room alone at any island.

5. What is the place you most want to visit?  PARIS!  I'm dying to go there.

6. What are your vacation necessities?  Sunscreen, books to read, a fun traveling companion!
