Wedding Wednesday-- The Details.

As with just about everything, I think the beauty of a wedding is in the details.  And of course, that's what you agonize over the most.  We did several DIY projects, which I'll share in detail later.  But here are some of my favorite details from the day.

In the lobby of our reception site, we had these frames set out on tables as decoration.
And these large ones were on easels lining the walk into the ballroom.

I realized today that I haven't linked up with my girl Jenn for Insta+Lately in over a month!! So, it's clearly time to rectify that. You can see through my instagram photos how incredibly exciting my life is. Or not...

1- I can definitely tell the difference between a filled in brow and a non-filled in one...
2- We were out of bowls one night, so I had to improvise with my lucky charms.
3- Donny is taking a Spanish class this semester, so he got me this card. :)

4- My new favorite starbucks drink-- the vanilla spice frappe.
5- It's been crazy cold. The girls at work were making fun of my get up, but I've got to keep warm somehow!
6- My Maybooks notebook that I won arrived! I love it, but I don't think I'd pay $15 for it myself.

7- We sent a wedding invitation to President Bush and Laura last fall and got this in the mail recently. Love it.
8- We celebrated our one year engage-iversary a few weeks ago!
9- I love shopping for cards that say this. :)

10- The breakfast casserole I made for Sunday school was apparently a big hit.
11- This is what happens when I try to get to work early. Stupid traffic...
12- Our favorite weekend activity-- cuddling on the couch while reading books.

13- The awesome VDay cake from my boo.
14- Safe Haven movie!
15- I started reading Tori Spelling's book, and I've got to say that I love it. I read half of it one night after work. Can't wait to finish it today.

16- Trunk latch won't work? No problem. Duct tape fixes anything.
17- I'm BEYOND ready for our trip to TX this weekend!! Can't wait for sun and warmth. Not to mention friends and family. And Taco Cabana!! :)
18- Strawberry cake mix cookies that Emily made for our Bible study last night. They were delicious!

This Weekend I...

... wished it was longer.  The weekend absolutely flew by.  Which is not to say that we were very busy because we weren't.  At all.  Thursday afternoon, I left work about 45 minutes early and came home just as Donny was finishing up his scavenger hunt.  We hadn't made any plans for the evening, but Donny decided that he wanted to out to dinner then come home and watch When Harry Met Sally.  He's not really a planner, so when he actually makes a plan does, I make it a point to go with it!  :)

We went to eat at a restaurant that NEVER has a wait to get in even on the busiest Saturday night.  However, Valentine's Day is another story apparently.  We got there right before 6, and there was already a 45 minute wait.  So, we hovered over some people in the booths in the bar and sat down after only about 15 minutes.  Win.

... got a conversation heart cake!  After we came home from dinner, Donny brought out this ice cream cake for me!  I love these candies, so this was an awesome surprise.  :)
And some beautiful roses.  :)
Then we settled in for the evening to watch When Harry Met Sally, Parks & Rec, and Big Bang Theory.  It was the perfect Valentine's Day.  :)

... made this Bacon & Pea Mac & Cheese for dinner on Friday night.  Donny absolutely loved it.  I, however, thought it was gross and ate cereal for dinner.  But then again, I don't love cheese, and this was very much cheese-flavored.  Blech...  I didn't even take a picture because it wasn't worth it for me.  Ha.

... slept in.  On Saturday morning, I slept until about 9:30, which I haven't done in forever.  It was heavenly.  (Sunday beat that-- it was 10:05 before I woke up to get ready for church!)

... watched curling.  For some reason, Donny is obsessed with curling.  I don't really understand a lot of what happens during a curling match, but I'm learning.  The US Championships were Saturday, so we watched them on tv.

... ate Chipotle.  So I didn't have to leave my nice, warm house in the snow, Donny went and got us Chipotle for lunch.  :)

... saw Safe Haven. We decided later to brave the snow flurries and went to the theater.  I loved the movie even though there were some significant story changes from the book.  After the movie, we went to dinner and then to Barnes & Noble for a bit.  I think I only added about 10 books to my goodreads to-read list while we were there, so I'll call that a victory.

... finally finished Natalie.  After church, lunch at my grandma's house, some shopping for baby gifts for babies we will be seeing this weekend, we finally made it home where this quickly became the scene:
Yep, we're reading machines.  I wasn't loving the book I was reading, so it took me over a week to finish even though it was only 240 pages.  But I finally powered through on Sunday and got it done!  We also watched Killing Lincoln on National Geographic last night, and I was slightly disappointed with it.

... woke up before the sun this morning.  And just like that, my relaxing weekend came to a screeching halt when the alarm went off at 5:45 am.  I managed to drag myself out of bed and to the gym after an extended hiatus. It felt good to get up and get going, but I could definitely tell that I forgot my Advocare Spark.  It's an absolute requirement for those 6am workouts!

How was your weekend??

Book Club Friday-- Safe Haven.

GoodReads Synopsis: When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken, single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.
But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo’s empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

My Thoughts:  It's been a while since I read a Nicholas Sparks book, but this one has me wanting to read the ones I've missed the past few years. This book was SO good. The writing, as always, is impeccable. I love how he goes back and forth between narrators, humanizing even the villain. The story is both sweet and suspenseful. Definitely ranks up there as one of my favorite Sparks books and one of my favorite books so far this year!

Valentine's Day Surprise.

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!!  I'm so excited to share my special VDay surprise that I arranged for Donny.  But first, you should go check out my post on Neely's blog!  In honor of the holiday, I'm talking about how blogging is directly responsible for me meeting my husband.  :)  (Oh, and there may be a little valentine for one of you...).

This year is our first Valentine's Day not only as a married couple, but also the first time we've spent the day together.  (Last year, if you'll recall, I spent VDay stuck in the air-travel day from hades...)  So, this year, I've put together a little scavenger hunt surprise for my boo thanks to some inspiration from pinterest!  (Seriously, I'm so thankful for pinterest because I am NOT a creative girl. But I can at least fake it pretty decently now.)

Donny always leaves for work and gets home before I do. So I arranged all the clues and gifts this morning after he left.  This way, he'll have a big surprise waiting for him when he arrives home!  I had a card on the door from the garage to our house so before he even walked in, he knew he had a job to do.  :)

All in all, I made four clues-- they took him to different spots in our house where there was a little gift waiting in each one (a Texas Born & Raised t-shirt, a Guinness, his fave Little Debbie cakes, etc.)....
Always good to use some inside jokes on the clues when you can...

The last clue led him to his recliner, where I put his main gift in the cabinet beside it.

I had his favorite photo from our wedding mounted so he can display it.  It turned out so great.

I had SO much fun making this scavenger hunt and coming up with gift ideas and clues!  The clues were definitely the hardest part, but it was so worth it.  I know he'll be surprised, and I can't wait to see his response.  :)

Anybody else have any creative ideas that I can steal use next time?
