Real Beauty.

You may have seen this video making its way around the web yesterday, but if not it's a video made by Dove following along with their "Real Beauty" marketing campaign.  In the video, women are brought in to a forensic sketch artist (neither the woman nor the artist can see each other).  He asks them questions to get them to describe themselves, their facial features, their hair, etc. and draws a sketch based on their description.  Before the event, each woman was asked to get to know another participant, then they described the person they met to the artist.

At the end of the video, the artist then has two sketches of the same woman-- one according to her own description and one according to the description of another.  The differences are striking.  You have to watch it...

It's so true that we're our own worst critics.  As women, we spend so much time focusing on the things we wish we could change.  But those really aren't the things other people care about or even see when they look at us.  Why do we waste so much energy hating parts of ourselves when there's so much beauty??  So today, I'm choosing to focus on the positive, not the negative.  Who's with me?

  5. I've seen this floating around but haven't made time to watch it ... until now. Amazing. I think it's true that we see ourselves differently than others see us. Often in a much harsher light. I am definitely guilty of being my own worst enemy at times. Perhaps it's time to change that and start talking to the girl in the mirror like I would talk to a friend sitting across from me at a table.
