This Weekend I...

... celebrated Donny's new job!! I took him to his fave place, Buffalo Wild Wings, on Thursday (the day he got the offer), and on Friday I got myself a manicure/pedicure (that I didn't want to spend the money on while we only had one income)! He's been out of work this time for three weeks, but got a call last week from one of his millions of resumes sent out. Initially they couldn't match his salary ask, but after calling his references and last employer in Texas, they decided they HAD to have him and offered MORE than he asked for! I'm so proud of him and I'm so thankful that God provided this opportunity for him. He starts the new job today!
We also went to see Pain and Gain on Friday (even though I still think it should be called "Muscle Beach," but whatever...).  I wasn't too excited to see it, but it actually ended up being really funny and better than I had anticipated.  Definitely worth a redbox rental if you can't catch it in theaters.

... went to the Greek Festival!  We had plans to play tennis on Saturday, but the rain quickly dashed that idea.  So instead, we had a delicious lunch of souvlaki and loukoumades (two of my favorite things ever).  The Greek Festival is held every year at our local Greek Orthodox church, which is absolutely beautiful.  These pictures can't do it justice.

... did some shopping.  First was at our local library's book sale, where we got a dozen books, two CDs, and one vinyl album all for $14!  Next was A.C. Moore, where Donny had to drag me away from the Sharpie aisle...
We also went to Best Buy, where they had The Lincoln Lawyer for super cheap. So of course, I had to get it and watch it immediately upon arriving at home.  This movie is definitely one of my favorite book adaptations-- it stuck EXACTLY to the book and really captured the feel of it.  When an author writes an article raving about the movie adaptation of his book, you know it's good.

... had a lazy Sunday.  We slept through church (oops), had a nice lunch at my grandma's house, got some yard stuff at Walmart, then were back at home where I spent the afternoon reading while Donny watched the early seasons of The Office.  I came SO close to finishing The Night Circus yesterday, but the closer it got to bedtime, the more I knew I would dream about it, so I put it down with about 50 pages to go.  I'm desperate to find out what happens from here!
Per someone's request, I made the Pioneer Woman's mac and cheese, which is always a fan favorite in our house.  It's super easy (if you don't have old milk like me that requires you to make a second roux with fresh milk that your husband had to go get when the first batch started to separate...) and so delicious!

How was everyone else's weekend??

  5. Congrats to your husband! That sounds like an awesome opportunity. And three weeks to get a job is pretty fast!

The author of the Lincoln Lawyer, Michael Connelly, wrote another book called Echo Park and I LOVED it! It was crazy because it's based in LA where I live and there were parts of the book that took place in my exact neighborhood. So it freaked me out, but kept me intrigued. I really need to read his other books.

Looks like you had a great weekend! Thanks for linking up :)

  6. I feel terrible for admitting this but I did not know that Lincoln Lawyer was a book first. Is it a good read?

  7. Thanks for the reviews - been wanting to watch both movies. I put Pain & Gain on my Netflix because not sure I want to dish out $12 to see it in theaters.
