Book Club Friday-- The Art of Racing in the Rain.

GoodReads Synopsis:  Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.  Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through.  A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human only a dog could tell it.

My Thoughts:  I knew this book was going to be good no more than five pages into it.  It is absolutely beautifully written.  The story was very unique, as it was told from the point of view of the dog, which was hilarious and creative.  It took a bizarre turn about halfway through the story that I didn't love, but overall the story was wonderful.  I loved the dog, his family, and was a little sad for this one to end.  I definitely recommend reading this one!!

  1. This is absolutely one of the best books I've ever read. I remember while I was reading it (and after) I'd look at my dog and wonder what the heck he was thinking haha. LOVED this book and I recommend it to anyone and everyone!

  2. One of my favorite books! Such a touching and emotional book! I remember reading it in college after one of my friends had told me how great it was! Such a beautiful book. :)
