A Weekend for the Books.

This past weekend was so great!  Friday night, we had a couple from our Bible Fellowship class come over.  I made Mexican food-- enchiladas, Mexican rice, and seasoned black beans.  They were all three new recipes (thank you, pinterest!).  I'm not usually a fan of trying new recipes for company, but they all actually turned out GREAT.  (Sadly, my pictures did not...)
Katie brought Paula Deen's Gooey Butter Bars for dessert, and holy cow they're delicious.  She actually left the pan at our house when they went home.  Not good...
After dinner, we played some very competitive games of Clue!  Donny and Carson had never played before, but they quickly got the hang of it.  So fun.

Saturday, we got up early because we had an anniversary photo session scheduled for the morning.  (It was supposed to be on Friday, but rain and wind forced us to postpone until Saturday.)  The weather was PERFECT-- mid-60s and sunny with beautiful trees and leaves!  Jonathan got some awesome shots, and I'm so excited to see the rest.

After we got home, Donny went to see a movie while I stayed home reading, watching football, and napping.  My TarHeels have been having a rough season, but they beat a big rival this weekend at NC State.
We spent the rest of the evening at home, relaxing, playing Phase10, and watching some HGTV.

On Sunday, the time change threw us off a little, so we were slightly late to church, but not too bad.  After lunch at my grandma's house, I went to my parents' house for my mom's help in getting Donny's anniversary present ready while he hung out with my dad watching football and the race.  I'm so excited about his gift but can't post about it yet since he reads my blog.  But I'll have a post about it next week!  We also got the top tier of our wedding cake out of their freezer to bring home and thaw so we can eat it next weekend.  It got a tad bit smooshed, but over all it's held up pretty well.

After we got home, I was determined to finish The Fault in Our Stars.  Of course, I cried for most of the second half of the book, which seemed to disturb Donny.  He threatened to take away the book if it kept making me cry.  Haha.  I'll have a full review of the book later this week, but it's one that I didn't immediately know what I felt about it.  I kind of loved it and hated it at the same time.

I went to bed last night thinking about the book, so I'm glad I didn't have any dreams like it.  I was definitely not excited for this morning to come so soon.  But I was glad that it wasn't pitch black when the alarm went off!

How was your weekend??

  3. I think Donny's threatening to take away the book is a total man response. My dad would have done the same thing!! Engagement pictures? Do you mean anniversary? So confused, but if you're in 'em I want to see 'em! My Packers are playing now and I'm periodically checking the score on study breaks. I love football!

  6. Sounds like it was a great weekend! I want to read that book too. Now, I am a bit scared because I get emotional over stuff really easily.

  7. The Fault in our Stars is on my to-read list and I'm a little anxious about reading. I think it's a book you either hate or love...and I hate those types!
