Book Club Friday-- The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes.

GoodReads Synopsis:  In 1977, pregnant Genevieve Russell disappeared. Twenty years later, her remains are discovered and Timothy Gleason is charged with murder. But there is no sign of the unborn child.  CeeCee Wilkes knows how Genevieve Russell died, because she was there. And she also knows what happened to the missing infant, because two decades ago she made the devastating choice to raise the baby as her own. Now Timothy Gleason is facing the death penalty, and she has another choice to make. Tell the truth, and destroy her family. Or let an innocent man die in order to protect a lifetime of lies...

My Thoughts:  This synopsis doesn't even begin to describe what happens in this book.  I ended up giving it three stars, but only because it got a lot better in the last 100 pages.  The first 300 were just completely far-fetched and ridiculous.  I know, I know-- she was a very naive 16 year old girl.  But come on.  People aren't THAT dumb.  Especially a girl who was supposedly very intelligent.  I just didn't buy that this situation could have happened-- and that everything that could go wrong did go wrong.  HOWEVER, I did enjoy the story once the "big secret" got out.  I still had a hard time believing in how the story unfolded, but I'm not one to argue with a (somewhat) happy ending.

  4. It sounded like I would enjoy this from the synopsis, but I'm glad I read your review. I think this one might go on the, "if I find it at the library" list.
