Favorite 2013 Reads.

This year, my goal was to read 50 books, but I ended up reading 67!  (For a full list and links to my reviews, click here.)

2013 was definitely the year of Michael Connelly.  In 2012, I read four of his books and fell in love.  This year, I read all of the rest of them (and re-read two of the Lincoln Lawyer books).  I'm a little sad that there's only one more of his books left unread, but I'm looking forward to discovering another new author to love this year.  I've considered Laura Lippmann, Jo Nesbo, and Harlan Coben.  Any other recommendations for me?

I also read 47 non-Michael Connelly books. Some of my favorite books this year were memoirs:

I also discovered some great authors that I had never read before:

Read some great Chick Lit:

And some of the best stories in a long time from favorite authors:

What were some of your favorite books of 2013??

  4. Yay! I love these kinds of posts. I set a goal to read 52...but this has been the WORST year of my life...so I'm giving myself an okay to not hit the mark. I just finished book 36 and will hopefully finish book 37 tomorrow (Revenge Wears Prada). I'm shooting for 42 as my new target! :) Never read any Michael Connelly books...maybe next year :)

  5. I love the way you structured this post. That's a lot of books by one author - he must be good! I haven't read any by him, but I have read one book by Harlan Coben. It was certainly interesting! I'm personally a fan of Clive Cussler. :) Also, I loved The Night Circus and Gone Girl. You should read Gillian Flynn's other two books, too - they both made it onto my top books of 2013 list!

  7. I think 67 was my final count for 2013, too, although some of those were very short, like one of Veronica Roth's Divergent short stories. I didn't ANY of those, though. But the midwife one looks really interesting.

  8. Excellent re-cap post. There are a few of these I could definitely put on my to-read list. Also, I haven't read Michael Connelly, but judging from the genre, I can recommend Clive Cussler, especially his early Dirk Pitt stuff. I hope you like them!

  9. I've been surprised at how often Sophie Kinsella has popped up on these 2013 favorites lists! Definitely adding her to the list for 2014. Sounds like perfect beach reading. :)
