A Great Weekend and a New PR!

After being busy and/or gone for the last few weekends in a row, we finally got the chance to stay home and relax this weekend. And it was heavenly.  Friday afternoon, I went to the pool for a while.  We had a delicious dinner of paleo pancakes, eggs, and bacon!  After dinner, we didn't leave the house.  We watched some baseball and the Crossfit Games and read our books and rested.

Saturday morning, it was paleo pancakes again.  Thankfully, I remembered to make a double batch the night before, so all the work was done!  And my peaches had ripened to the PERFECT stage, so I had to have two.  There's nothing better in the whole world than a sweet, ripe peach.
After breakfast, I went to the pool with the final Harry Potter book.  While I have loved the series and hate to see it end, I'm not loving this last book at all right now.  I hope it gets better.
Saturday night, Donny and I had a fantastic date night!  First, we went to the Mellow Mushroom for dinner.  I had been craving a good (non-Pizza Hut or Papa Johns type) pizza, and MM is the best.  It's definitely not paleo, but it was delicious!
After dinner, we went to see A Most Wanted Man (aka one of Philip Seymour Hoffman's last movies).  Being a non-mainstream movie, we had to go to the artsy movie theater downtown to see it.  I was not a big fan.  The room was tiny and the seats were cramped.  Sure, they have beer and wine and some different options at the concession stand.  But it's not a place that I'll pick to go again unless they are the only theater in town with a movie I want to see.
After the movie, we went to get drinks.  This is so unusual for me/us, but we weren't quite ready for the evening to end!  I was hoping to find something like the delicious Bramble from Marshall Freehouse.  They didn't have anything exactly the same, but this hit the spot anyway.  And I haven't had rock candy in more than 15 years, but it was delicious with the gin.
Sunday, we were lazy again and didn't go anywhere.  I spent the afternoon catching up on blogs (my reader was at over 800!) and reading more Harry Potter.  I paleo-ified an old recipe, and it was delicious!  I'll post it later this week.
Sunday night was the final rounds of the Crossfit games, and I was stoked that Rich Froning and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet won!
There were some crazy tough events that I can't even imagine doing right now.  But then again, two months ago, I couldn't imagine that this morning I would front squat 100lbs for my new PR!  When I started, I was squatting with a training bar (15lbs vs. the usual 45) for a grand total of 25 lbs.  What a long way I've come already in just two months-- I'm so excited to see where I am in two more!

  1. Congrats on the PR!! It's amazing what our bodies can do with a little training!! Good luck as you continue! I'm a huge fan of any night that we don't leave the house haha! Also, that mellow mushroom pizza just made my mouth water...and now I'm craving their pretzels like WHOA!

  2. Are you just reading HP for the first time? Just curious. I loved the 7th book, but it didn't get super exciting for me until halfway through and into the end. And just be forewarned: the epilogue is cheesy. Super cheesy. I think I liked that the least. When you get done, let me know and I'll tell you my exact thoughts on it, lol.

Also, congrats on the PR!!!! That is HUGE!!! :-D Can't wait to hear more of your progress!!!

And I can't wait to know about that recipe--looks yummy!!

  3. That is awesome on the PR-- congrats! I know it is amazing to see how far the body can come in a short amount of time. And I think we're going to have to check out the mellow mushroom near us. Yum!!! As far as the last Harry Potter book goes, once you get past the eternal camping trip, things get better. LOVE the series, though book #3 is my favorite :)

  6. Looks like you took full advantage of being home this weekend! I loooove a ripe peach! Was the movie not that good either or was it just the theater you didn't like? I'm intrigued by the movie
