Our Annual Mountain Weekend.

This weekend, Donny and I took our annual trip to the NC Mountains.  I realized on our way that this was our FOURTH such trip, going back to Donny's first time in NC!  Four??  Where did the time go?

Our first stop was Blowing Rock, where we had lunch and wandered around all the downtown shops.  We actually got some Christmas shopping done!  From Blowing Rock, we drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Grandfather Mountain. There are so many gorgeous places along the parkway!
We actually drove a little further on the parkway than we were supposed to and ended up taking a different road to Grandfather Mountain.  On the way, we found this adorable Christmas shop on the side of the road!
I almost bought this for Donny...
It was so beautiful inside!
We finally made it to Grandfather Mountain, where it was FREEZING.  At 5200+ feet of elevation, it was 36* with sustained winds at 22mph and gusts up to 45mph, making the wind chill a whopping 23*!
Despite the cold, it was GORGEOUS!
After a delicious dinner at our favorite mountain BBQ place in Marion, NC, we headed home!  It was a fantastic way to start October!!
