First Weekend of Summer.

This weekend was a pretty laid-back weekend (which was great because next weekend is my brother's wedding, so it will be pretty busy). Friday, Donny and I hung out at the pool for a while in the afternoon then went to see Jersey Boys.  I thought it was great!  The acting was fantastic, and the music was amazing.  The story was very said, but it is what it is.  I had no idea until we got home from the movie that the critics didn't like it.  It's not the first time that they've hated a movie I loved, and I'm sure it won't be the last.
Saturday, I spent the morning at the pool again reading The Son by Jo Nesbo.  This is a Norwegian author who has been recommended to me several times because of my love for Michael Connelly.  He has a series based on a detective, Harry Hole, that I'm looking forward to get into.  But this book is a stand-alone, and so far it's really good!  I'll save my stamp of approval until I'm done, but so far it's definitely got me hooked.
Saturday night, we went to my parents' house for dinner and so I could help my mom with her makeup for Drew's wedding and show her my dress options.  I narrowed the four I tried on for her down to two.  Donny LOVES the sequined dress, but the long navy one is probably more appropriate for the occasion.  Plus, it's so much more comfortable.  Who knew sequins are so heavy??
Our Sunday was incredibly lazy.  We skipped church in favor of sleep (heathens, I know...) then spent the day watching baseball, soccer, and NASCAR.  Like everyone else, I had a collective heart attack during the soccer match.  What a game...
Now it's Monday, which would ordinarily be sad.  However, it's also the first day of Wimbledon, so it's a happy day!

Hope y'all have a great week!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

To the man who always makes me laugh, loves pineapple Greek yogurt more than almost anything, always told me I could do whatever I set my mind to, coached my soccer teams, instilled in me a love for Carolina basketball, mowed my yard and washed my car over and over without complaining, came to my first trial to take an unauthorized picture, took me to my first Yankees game, and never fails to tell me that he loves me and is proud of me...
Happy birthday, Dad!  I hope you have a wonderful day full of great World Cup soccer matches and no stress.  Can't wait to see you tonight for some delicious burgers!  I love you!!

Two Weeks??

It's been two weeks since I last blogged??  Crazy how two weeks go by so quickly.  I didn't particularly mean to not blog, but it just didn't happen. I typically blog first thing in the morning when I get to work, but work has been absolutely crazy and didn't give me a chance. And then in the evenings, we've either been busy or I've fallen asleep on the couch at 8pm.  Crossfit at 5:30 in the morning can wear a girl out!

Donny has continued to remind me that I'm failing at blogging, so here I am back at it!  It's almost impossible to remember what we've done over the last two weeks to give some sort of recap.  Thankfully, I have my phone pictures to help me!

We've hung out at the pool quite a bit, including one Saturday that we had almost the whole place to ourselves!  Thanks to some clouds in the morning, almost no one showed up until I was ready to leave around 3:30pm.  Heavenly.
It's been hot as Hades in my office, so I've resorted to thievery to get some relief.  Thankfully, my colleague Al is a good sport and lets me keep his fan for a while.
Donny and I went to a wine festival and had a good time.  I went just because he asked me to, but he was kind of excited about it.  Sadly, they didn't have many options for my dry red wine-loving husband.  But if you want some sweet/fruity/dessert wines, then you'll love the Tanglewood wine festival next year!
I also got my first Popsugar Must Have box thanks to my incredibly thoughtful friend Katie.  She got it as a half-birthday present for me.  :)  Too bad I've already read the book, but I'm excited to play with all the other stuff!
Speaking of Katie, she and I went to see the Fault in Our Stars movie, and it was SO good!  I'm horrible at remembering details from books, so I'm not the best judge of what was left out.  But from what I remember, it was very true to the book until near the end when they breezed through some parts.  But overall, it was great, and I'd definitely recommend it.
My mom went to the beach last weekend with one of her friends, so Donny and I got to hang out with my dad some, including one night at a minor league baseball game.  Fun times!
Sadly it was not fun times last week for my grandmother and her husband who suffered some major storm damage.  They lost two huge trees in their backyard, one of which hit the house and put a hole in the roof.  It also, along with another smaller tree, took out their small pickup truck.  (The trampoline in the first picture is from a neighbor's yard...)  Thank you, Lord that no one was hurt and the damage wasn't worse.  The damage to the house was minor, and nothing inside was lost.
This past weekend, Donny planned a date night for us!  We went to my favorite Japanese place, walked around some shops for a while, and then went to play air hockey.  I don't know why he chooses to play air hockey with me.  He know that I'm a master at it...
Saturday, was our friends Heidi and Andrew's wedding!  It was such a great day for them.  The weather was great and everything went smoothly.
Bible fellowship friends!
Me and my hot date!
What a beautiful cake
I laughed so hard at Andrew.  He didn't stand/sit still the ENTIRE reception.  So cute to see him clearly so very happy.  :)
Sunday was Father's Day but it was also the day we celebrated my dad's 60th birthday (which is Tuesday) with the family.  The six of us will hang out with him on his actual birthday, but we had to celebrate at Mamaw's Sunday lunch too!  The cake was from Cold Stone Creamery, and oh wow was it delicious!

We've also started watching The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  Of course, neither of us are up until 11:30pm, so we record it and watch it later.  But oh my word is it hilarious!  Jimmy is just the absolute funniest guy around.  I love it so much.

So, that's what's been going on with me, and I hope to catch up on all of your blogs ASAP!  Hope y'all have a great week!  :)

Weekend and Book Challenge Update.

This weekend was pretty low-key. Friday night, my small group girls and I went to dinner for Jen's birthday. She picked a new burger place in Greensboro that none of us had been to, Hop's Burger Bar. And oh. my. word.  It was the BEST burger ever.  Of course, when I told my burger-connoisseur husband about it when I got home, he felt the need to go.  So we had to go again Saturday night.  And it was just as amazing the second time around.  My mouth is watering now just thinking about it...  I'm glad it's 40 minutes away so we don't give into temptation to go there multiple times a week...
I also read Emily Giffin's new book in a day and a half this weekend.  I absolutely loved it and couldn't put it down.  The last few of hers have not really clicked with me, but this one was SO good.  Definitely different than what she usually writes, but I think that's why I liked it so much.
And since it's the first of the month, here's an update on the Summer Book Challenge I'm participating in. While I have read a lot of books since the beginning of May, only a few of them have counted for the challenge.  I need to get to reading for these categories, but the world of Harry Potter has sucked me in!  I'm only at 55 points out of 200 right now:
5 points: Freebie! Read any book that is at least 200 pages long.
Inferno by Dan Brown

10 points: Read a book from the children’s section of the library or bookstore.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling

15 points: Read a book that is on The New York Times' Best Sellers List when you begin reading it.
The One & Only by Emily Giffin

25 points: Read a biography, autobiography or memoir.
Brain on Fire by Susannah Calahan

Hope you guys had a great weekend!  Read any good books that I need to add to my list??
